Democrats don't need any more presidential candidates. They need senators.

At least on paper, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) looks like a powerful contender for the presidency. He has a quarter-century of experience in Congress. He brings a left populist appeal without the baggage of being a self-described “socialist.” And he’s a winner. Brown won reelection by nearly seven points last November, despite Ohio’s Trumpian tilt and despite the fact that Republicans swept the state’s other major statewide offices.

We're never going to get the Senate majority if we don't start thinking about all the talent we're losing to the Presidential race. We need some of the candidates to realize pretty quickly they have no chance and keep their eye on maintaining their Senate seat if it is up for grabs in 2020.

....there is a case to be made that part of the reason we are in the heaping amounts of shit we are in is because we've spent so much time and energy fixating on the presidency and not enough time focusing on pretty much every other elections. Obviously there are exceptions, but the focus on presidency has been outsized and we are paying the price and have been for a while now.

I too am hoping Beto continues his contribution to turning Texas blue. He came very close in 2018 and I truly believe he helped down ballot candidates in those purple congressional districts. He certainly electrified and gave hope to Democrats in Texas. However he couldn't get enough of them out to counter the blood red districts.

Cornyn will definitely be a tougher candidate. However Beto has better name recognition now and it will be a presidential year - w/Trump at the top of the Republican ticket.

Right now Trump isn't polling well in Texas and hasn't been for a while. If it gets worse or remains the same, it might be enough to help Beto get across the finish line in 2020 and turn Texas blue. When it's goes blue it's Good Night Irene for the Repugs. Hope I live long enough to see that day. But then, I never though gay marriage in America was possible and now it's the law.

Beto and the Democratic presidential ticket campaigning in Texas might just put Texas in play.

Why is there this rush to gut our legislative bench? We just got the House majority and should work for one in the Senate. I would like to see some of these people reconsider and work to get their ideas into legislation. I have considered finding a candidate to back who is not currently serving in Congress. Although I like Kamala Harris very much, I can be persuaded because this is so important. I don't like Swalwell's approach to abandon his seat to run. I hope others don't copy it.
