6. Weren't we already rudely awakened when Trump won?

Trump took full advantage of the obvious: most people are vocalizing discontent with holding down 2 or three inadequate part time jobs just to make ends meet. Most people are comfortable articulating their frustration with the spoils all going to corporations and the rich. They didn't realize, of course, that Trump would make their lives even MORE miserable. Biden will come around to articulating a less cozy attitude towards the rich, but it may be too late. He'll be trounced in the debates if he doesn't.

13. Oh, don't worry, this isn't really that obvious.

The obvious thing is always that the future will look just like the past. Since Reagan, the default for both parties has been that lower taxes are better. Conservatives say the wealthy are "job creators" therefore don't tax them. Democrats say that taxes are a necessary evil, so we have to do it, but not too much.

But what if it became apparent that the wealthy are just gaming the system and aren't creating any jobs? That's new information, and it looks like people are reacting to that by wanting to "soak the rich."

Despite that, most of us just assume people will keep believing what they always believed, no matter what. Warren's assuming this new willingness to tax is real and if she offers big new taxes, she will win. If she's right, she WILL win, but you can expect a lot of hand-wringing based on invalid assumptions until Election Day.

rich. There is nothing wrong with quashing fears, stating the obvious, that he isn't going to "go after them". Now, the problem for the last few decades, including both parties, is that the rich have had the largest share, the biggest gains from government while the rest of us get the crumbs. I hope he understands that its time for the 1% party to be over.

If he doesn't say it, he will lose voters to Warren who is saying exactly that.

He's not necessarily wrong. The 1% has won throughout most of history, so that's the safe bet. But everyone once in a while, the peasants get restless and have to be appeased, or else.

The problem with blanket statements and generalizations is that they rarely apply to the real world. They also have the potential of alienating people who would otherwise be allies.
