Warren leads again: proposes legislation so presidents can be indicted
As she has on so many issues, Elizabeth Warren is demonstrating leadership in proposing comprehensive legislation that would, among other things, allow a sitting president to be indicted.
snip "she would pursue new legislation to strip the current protections and, on the administration side, pledged to appoint Justice Department officials who will reverse flawed policies so no President is shielded from criminal accountability.'" On Wallace's show just now they gave Warren credit for speaking plainly on an issue that many Americans didn't realize was in practicality under DOJ guidelines the case, that a President is above the law. https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/31/politics/elizabeth-warren-law-presidents-trump-indictment/index.html

2. Doesn't that hand the argument to the pukes
that under current law a President can't be indicted. Why cede them that ground?

4. No, Dems can do both at once
They can say the guidelines are wrong while also proposing legislation that would ensure that it becomes law. And if we worry about how they are going to paint it, then we have already ceded the ground to them.

11. As it stands, now, a president is either indictable or not indictable, under current law.
Last edited Fri May 31, 2019, 07:08 PM - Edit history (1) Trying to make a law that the president is indictable cedes the conclusion that, right now, the president is not indictable. The tack to take would be to sue that the "cannot indict a sitting president" policy is unconstitutional.
It is not a case of worrying about how they paint it, but how we will have painted it. You can't do the "two things at a time" because one is a fall back solution in the case that the president is, indeed, not indictable. That argument is premature and undermines the argument that the president is, currently, indictable. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

13. This would then strengthen the impeachment process...
one of the articles of impeachment would read. "The President stands indicted BY GRAND JURY of the the charge...
evidence is..." Finding a policy unconstitutional would happen more quickly than getting a new law passed. Elizabeth Warren knows this. It's like Bernie FINALLY offering up a single payer healthcare bill AFTER the House and Senate fall under Republican control That would be called "showboating." ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

The extremist Republican Court will knock it down. IMO.

Lizzie Warren took an (verbal) axe
And gave tRUMP forty whacks. When she saw what she had done She gave Barr, McConnel and Pence forty-one! ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

The GOP could not be trusted with this sort of power.
