The Politico story on BS's millions is recommended on Jewish Journal's "Best of the Web"

They excerpt and then link directly to Politico.

How Does a Socialist Get So Rich?

From Wiki:

The Jewish Journal is recognized as the major Jewish paper in Los Angeles, which has the second-largest Jewish population in the United States. The Los Angeles Times called The Jewish Journal "an influential weekly." It has received a number of awards from the Los Angeles Press Club over the years.

Jewishjournal.com is ranked by StatCounter, Google Analytics, and Compete.com as having the most monthly unique users of any American Jewish news web site. The web site is notable for its many blogs covering all aspects of Jewish life, including A Jew, by Michael Berenbaum, Foodaism by Rob Eshman, HollywoodJew by Danielle Berrin and Keeping the Faith and Keeping It Real by Ilana Angel. One of the issues I really had with Sanders in 2015 was the fact he had so little. His history with personal finance was never stellar or even good. Then at his age, with a two working adult family, he only had like 300K. That made no sense to me unless he just handled his money really poorly. That is not inspiring to me when hiring a President.

So, point taken. But, I think the discussion is how he made that money, and just all at once, in 2016 off a campaign attacking the very millionaire and billionaires he became. Setting himself separate of Democrats and using it as a weapon to create the image of " both parties the same", "corporate". Really hurting us Democrats in 2016. Sanders really hurt us in 2016.

People 75 and older have an average net worth of $264,800, a 32% increase from their 2013 average of $200,800. This group experienced the highest net worth increase of all age groups.

Not everyone is privileged enough to have $1,000,000 in a 401K. As a matter of fact, 35% of all American workers don't even have access to a 401K.

because Bernie Sanders has spent his lifetime ranting and raving against 'rich' millionaires and billionaires. Take from the rich, give to the poor and everything will be hunky-dory. Except,

now he's a millionaire+ and the tune has changed to 'multi-millionaires and billionaires.'

I don't think anyone begrudges a 77-year old man his nest-egg. But it does undercut the notion that everyone with a $ million+ in the bank are automatic greed-heads, despicable and the source of all woe. This by virtue of their bottom line, this by being a generalized boogie-man for political purposes.

Sometimes a message comes back to bite you. This is one of those times.

Exactly, Skya. The tax receipts were an issue because he boxed himself in with years of ranting and raving against anyone who broke the millionaire threshold. Suddenly, that included him and his wife. So, the messaging was switched to 'multi-millionaires.' LOL.

It's the vulnerability of hardline positions, messaging that lacks any flexibility and relies on demonizing your opponents. On the hard Left or the hard Right. The Senator from Vermont was caught in his own net.

It was the tweet that was the problem.

Politico accused of anti-Semitism over Bernie Sanders illustration, tweet

Politico originally tweeted the article under the heading “Bernie Sanders might still be cheap, but he’s sure not poor,” leading to criticism about promulgating the anti-Semitic tropes of both cheap Jews and rich Jews.

Politico later changed the tweet of the article to read: “Bernie Sanders has three homes and a net worth approaching at least $2 million. In a strict, bottom-line sense, he has become one of those rich people against whom he has so unrelentingly railed.”

The tweet included the explanation that: “For the record: This replaces a deleted tweet that needed more context. Our apologies.”

snip===============================

The Anti-Defamation League criticized the magazine, tweeting: “In this dangerous climate of rising #anti-Semitism, all media organizations have a responsibility to be careful not to perpetuate #anti-Semitic tropes, such as those about Jews and wealth.”

https://www.timesofisrael.com/politico-accused-of-anti-semitism-over-bernie-sanders-illustration-tweet/

The story itself is still on Politico and the Jewish Journal has not removed its recommendation.

Now that the distraction is gone, voters will be better able to focus on the content of the article

The Secret of Bernie’s Millions

How did he amass three houses and a net worth approaching at least $2 million? The surprisingly conventional middle-class climbing of a radical-sounding socialist.

I'm glad Politico apologized for the tweet and changed it, but is standing by their story.

Now the focus is back where it belongs:

The Secret of Bernie’s Millions

How did he amass three houses and a net worth approaching at least $2 million? The surprisingly conventional middle-class climbing of a radical-sounding socialist.

snip=================================

In the wake of his 2016 presidential run, the most lucrative thing he’s ever done, the 77-year-old self-described democratic socialist is a three-home-owning millionaire with a net worth approaching at least $2 million, taking into account his publicly outlined assets and liabilities along with the real estate he owns outright. In a strict, bottom-line sense, Sanders has become one of those rich people against whom he has so unrelentingly railed.

The champion of the underclass and castigator of “the 1 percent” has found himself in the socioeconomic penthouse of his rhetorical boogeymen. This development, seen mostly as the result of big bucks brought in by the slate of books he’s put out in the past few years, predictably has elicited snarky pokes, partisan jabs and charges of hypocrisy. The millionaire socialist!
