Could Martin O’Malley Speak At DNC This Summer?

'Supporters aren’t ready to let him go. His name has popped up as a possible replacement for chair of the Democratic National Committee. Longtime backer John Coale—who is married to Fox TV host Greta vanSustern—Tweets “Martin O’Malley 4 DNC Chair” and it’s been retweeted by a party strategist.

According to political analyst Richard Vatz, O’Malley would be a good choice.

“One of the reasons I think Governor O’Malley would be very good for this position is that he is politically right between Hillary and Bernie,” Vatz said.

The Sanders campaign accused DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Shultz of playing favorites.

“Do I think she is the kind of chair that the Democratic party needs? No, I don’t,” Sanders said.

There’s a lot of handwringing over finding party unity when Hillary and Bernie supporters go head-to-head at the Democratic National Convention.'>>>

3. I think he should.

He was a nomination candidate also and a respected member of the party.

As for heading the DNC, a clump of dirt can achieve better results than Payday Debbie and he was a governor so we know he's got managerial skills. Why not?

Can he play the role of peace maker between Clinton and Sanders camps? I doubt it.

4. I'll listen to him if he does and

he most certainly should be given every consideration.

Guy's a class act.

5. Head of DNC, depends on his future plans

Being Head of the DNC is like being given the political dead sentence. He would be much better off politically to vie for a cabinet post or V.P., if he is looking to becoming POTUS one day. I like O'Malley, his views are quite similar to Bernie's and he was my second choice. If he's not looking to become POTUS one day, then yes he would make a great head of the DNC.

6. I think the Apocalypse is upon us

A DU thread where I am in total agreement with the first 5 posts.
That hasn't happened in....Well it's never happened in campaign season.

But give it time; someone will jump
on this for an anti-Bernie or anti-Hillary comment.

15. I agree with your take on the DNC job.

I think O'Malley would do a great job but I think the party should save him for better things. A cabinet post, VP, or even just head of an important agency. He's brilliant and good at coming up with solutions. (On one hand I'd like to put him in charge of the Veterans Administration. But unfortunately there are so many intractable root problems there, that no single person would be able to solve and he'd inevitably be stained with "failure" - even if he made great improvements in many areas. Unfortunately that is probably the case with most or all important jobs in government these days.)

7. I'm looking forward to hearing him speak.

He will make a strong case for unity and inclusiveness.

With respect to the DNC chair, I think he is overqualified for that and could be more helpful in another capacity.

10. Hi back to you!

Have a great holiday weekend as well.

I'm always happy to put in a plug for O'Malley. He is still my preferred candidate. I respect his policies and his character. He is both pragmatic and idealistic.

And I now have four of his CDs! He has an excellent voice, by the way.

I have liked his voice, but haven't heard it un-scratchy.

13. Yeah, YouTube and MP3 don't do him justice. The mix on the CDs is excellent.

My favorite is "O'Malley's March Live." Unfortunately, this is getting hard to find; and the price is going up. Cheapest copy (used) on Amazon is $25.85.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=o%27malley%27s+march&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ao%27malley%27s+march

As a matter of fact, all of his CDs are getting harder to find. Original production was limited, so most available CDs are used. I think O'Malley has a lot of fans out there.

I like "Wait for Me" too.

The only one I don't have is "O'Malley's March: Galway Races." It is his newest album, but has none of his his own compositions. He said that, while he was governor, he had trouble finding the solitude he needed to write music. Remember, this is the guy who reads Thomas Merton in the morning.

Here's a quote from Thomas Merton's Thoughts in Solitude:

When society is made up of men who know no interior solitude it can no longer be held together by love: and consequently it is held together by a violent and abusive authority. But when men are violently deprived of the solitude and freedom which are their due, the society in which they live becomes putrid, it festers with servility, resentment and hate.

Sounds relevant to me. And you can see why O'Malley likes Merton.
