Martin O'Malley fails to qualify for Ohio ballot.

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley failed to qualify for Ohio's primary ballot after falling short of the signatures needed to appear before the state's voters, a spokesman for the state's elections chief said Thursday.

O'Malley needed 1,000 valid signatures to appear on the March 15 primary ballot. The former Maryland governor's campaign submitted 1,175 signatures, but only 772 were deemed valid, said Josh Eck, a spokesman for Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.

1. Well, shit.

But 175 extras is cutting it too close.

2. My POV towards Mr. O'Malley's lack of strategy in Ohio are better discussed outside his group.

I didn't realize I was in the MOM group when I made my observations.

8. Done, but might I suggest that if you don't want this topic discussed IN the MOM group,

that you shut down the thread and invite the thread starter to take it to the GD-P.

That IS where I thought I was when I made my observations.

5. Please do not post in this Group,

unless you learn something about this candidate.

6. I like having O'Malley in the race

He's a good candidate, and he's incredibly articulate.

I hope the publicity he garners from the primary races boosts him to a higher level within our party.

Maybe there is a way out of this Ohio situation?

7. I am sure Martin would approve of your loyalty but

he just gave up 1597 potential delegate votes from Ohio as well as never getting any electoral votes from Ohio the state that often decides the election if he did by some miracle win the nomination. In short where it appeared to most of us Bernie and Hillary fans that he could not be nominated, we are sure of that now. At this point, he should just drop out and let voters concentrate on the issue differences among the competitive candidates. Otherwise he is just helping the DNC keep voters ignorant to help Hillary.

9. Why do you think his candidacy helps Hillary?

I have wondered what happens if MOM drops out.

I think many of his supporters are looking for an alternative to the front runner, Hillary. Plus, he's more left than Hillary.

My guess was that Bernie would get his supporters, but I'm not sure.

It's highly unlikely that he'll be viable in any Iowa precincts. You need a 15 percent supporter threshold to be viable. Doubtful he'd get that anywhere.

But it's a bit of a mystery (to me anyway) where MOM supporters would go. Would love to hear any thoughts about this.

10. I don't know where MO'M supporters would go either

On one hand his policy positions are closer to Bernie. On the other hand he has the same kind of polished look that Hillary has and that appeals to a lot of people as well.

11. It is simple. Our support will go to the winner of the Democratic nomination.

While i agree his views are closer to Sanders, O'Malley has the added bonus of accomplishments. He's not just talk, he has accomplished much of what he proposes and has proven his ideas work.

13. Sorry I meant if he drops out before the primaries are over

For whatever reason. I doubt he would drop out before NH or Iowa. But, who knows after that.

14. That would be a hard choice for me

But I'd probably support Clinton.

Because winning the election is what counts. And I think if Sanders won the nomination, he would be destroyed.
