Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumWhat coverage has NPR given Bernie?
Hello, all,
Yesterday, one of the main news programs on NPR had a story from a rally for Trump, talking about the size of the crowd and its enthusiasm.
A few of the attendees were interviewed, expressing why they liked Trump.
Has NPR done the same type of story about Bernie?
I used to be able to go on the NPR website and pull up stories on specific topics from past news programs; I tried that this morning but wasn't able to do that.

(4,458 posts)Who cares...NPR is just another bought and paid for media outlet imo. So, If I don't, as a consumer, cover Them (tuning in) then it doesn't matter what they do/do not cover
The Corporate media can make all the Noise it wants....(propaganda/canned news)but like the tree in the forest...if no one hears a tree fall..does it still make noise?
I personally believe every time I tune in to any corpo-media, I am rewarding them with a return on their investment of Big bucks; Big bucks that were invested with the sole intent of usurping, for the "monopoly win" the control of all "messaging". That - in a nutshell is what happened to Our "Fourth Estate", decades ago, imo.
If they aren't reporting real news and most, by now, know MSM is a pile of streaming corporate compost, and we realistically understand there is nothing of great importance relative to the big issues of our time being reported on...then why does Anyone tune in to reward those that have robbed our Fourth Estate? Hope for a sliver of that carrot they promise they'll dangle, maybe at some point in the future?
There are millions and millions that do listen to them...including my partner on his way to work and on his way home...he knows that I stopped listening several years ago but he continues.
He is not alone and that is why it SHOULD matter to all of us what is being broadcast.

(4,458 posts)We need to offer those who still believe what MSM has become an important question about news...ask them..."What of any importance, did you learn today?"
Educate. Educate. Educate.
At least, then perhaps, those who still tune in, might start listening with a different and more discerning ear.

(6,119 posts)I listen to some of their non-news programming via podcast.
I am ready for Grover Norquist to finally put their news division out of my misery and drown it in a bathtub.

(20,453 posts)Inevitably, it turned it into a tool for the message, whoever was in charge of that message. Next thing you know, NPR morphs but many continue to suck on it.

(45,251 posts)Rehm began her radio career in 1973[4] as a volunteer for WAMU's The Home Show. In 1979, she took over as the host of WAMU's morning talk show, Kaleidoscope, which was renamed The Diane Rehm Show in 1984.
Rehm has interviewed many political and cultural figures, including John McCain, Barack Obama, Madeleine Albright, and others. She has said that her most touching interview was with Fred Rogers of the PBS program Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, conducted just before his death.[4] Rehm considers her interviews with Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton to have been "amazing experiences."[5]

The two mistakes she made?
1. Claiming Bernie had said "All Lives Matter," when the reality is that Hillary and O'Malley said it. Bernie is the only one of the 3 frontrunners who did NOT say that. (This one has not made it into wikipedia yet.)
2. Claiming Bernie had dual US-Israeli citizenship, an anti-Semitic dog whistle, based on something she saw in--wait for it--facebook.
Allegations of anti-Semitism and the Bernie Sanders interview
On June 10, 2015, Rehm interviewed 2016 Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and made the false statement that Sanders had dual citizenship with Israel, which Sanders denied. Rehm persisted with the false claim in the face of repeated denials from Sanders.[12][13][14][15] Sanders indicated that he was offended by the assumption.[13][14] Rehm's statements were criticized by David Harsanyi in The Federalist for being an anti-Semitic smear.[12] Sophia Tesfaye of Salon pointed out that Rehm apparently fell for an antisemitic canard and did not successfully fact-check her information before she conducted her interview with Sanders.[14] In The Times of Israel, Gedalyah Reback stated that the interview was controversial because Rehm seemed to have accused a Jewish U.S. presidential candidate of maintaining secret Israeli citizenship.[15]
Rehm apologized for her exchange with Sanders in a statement released later that day. On todays show I made a mistake. Rather than asking if Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders whether he had dual U.S./Israeli citizenship, as I had read in a comment on Facebook, I stated it as fact. I want to apologize as well to all our listeners for having made an erroneous statement. I am sorry for the mistake. However, I am glad to play a role in putting this rumor to rest.[16] Journalist Josh Marshall called her apology, "a total crock."[17] Law professor David Bernstein found it strange that both Rehm and her producer fell for what he felt was an obvious anti-Semitic hoax. He speculated that frequently heard strange accusations about Jewish supporters of Israel may have played a role.[18] Elizabeth Jepsen, NPR's ombudsman, took issue with both Rehm's interview and apology: "Far from putting anything to rest, Rehm has now taken a falsehood from the fringes of the Internet and moved it into the mainstream conversation."[19] Thomas Lifson in the American Thinker said that Diane Rehm "has unmasked herself as an anti-semite".[20]

(20,453 posts)She is so difficult to listen to, due to her vocal disability. I believe that after the 2003 illegal war, she was pressured to carry the water for the message.
