hold up kids! I didn't get to talk!

someone locked down my thread b4 could ask, 'why was the bernie speech the other day attended primarily by well-dressed rich people'? esp one hosted by the afl-cio. where were all the actual... working people? not because it was the middle of the day; this is a retail town. yes, I can recognize construction workers when I see them. they could make it, but what about the walmart retail zombies? what's their excuse?

this is a serious concern and one I have abt the democratic party at large. for whom I have worked and with which I have noticed that ppl are hired upon their good-lookingness and ethereal academic qualifications rather than any actual competence. on the flip side of the coin, I've noticed that getting my twentysomething coworkers to give a flip abt the Serious Geopolitical Concerns of the Day is like pulling effing teeth. ditto for the fortysomething ones, tho that's not gonna stop me from GETTING OUT THE VOTE.

before you all get your panties in a wad like you did last time, I do support bernie. I support him a lot, and have been planning on volunteering for him. I will be volunteering for him. etc.

4. So is it snobbery when it's called out....

or when it's set up.

If it really concerns you, find ways to address it. Problem solved.

8. Which could be why you're not getting much of a response....

since the way your question is set, it looks like flame bait.

Try, "what's a good way to improve youth turnout?"

21. Cool, cool, then what steps do you think...

you/we could take to get greater involvement? Because I wouldn't worry about the breakdown of individual events. There will be quite a few over the next year and a part.

23. candidates discussing inequality should help tremendously.

but so many of my friends think that all politicians are lying liars. esp the ones who lived thru clinton.

17. not just youth turnout.

seemed like the only ppl actually from the valley were the reporters from the sun. all three of them.
also, if 'real' unemployment is 15% as mr sanders posited, ppl should have plenty of time to make a political event.

7. I think this has been misinterpreted.

I'm a huge fan of bernie and I really want to talk abt why working class people are not interested in politics. or why it seems like everyone in washington has attended hahvahd. either one.

9. Maybe the working people

are at work most of the time, or driving their kids around, or otherwise occupied with surviving.

15. I'm a low-level service employee with a strong drive to survive.

I just happen to think that electing progressive candidates is critical to said survival.

10. I don't know, if you were close enough to actually

see the type of people attending you should have asked them why they were there but the working stiffs didn't attend. You can always go to your local Wahl Mart and ask the employees there why they didn't attend. I would be willing to bet that they can't get the time off. Ask the people at the fast food joints and service businesses why they didn't attend. I'm willing to bet they couldn't get the time off. Here's how it goes when you work a service job.

Hey Boss, there's a Bernie Sanders rally today, I'm not coming in.
you get in here and work your scheduled shift today or your fired.

That's about how that conversation would go

18. I didn't forget anything. Maybe some Wal Mart workers dressed up to attend.

Since you chat with them why didn't they go? Surly you asked that question in one of your chats?

20. Employees at your Wal Mart are all missing teeth? You should get them to vote for Bernie

He believes in a living wage.
You were close enough to see they all had their teeth, and you still didn't ask them if they were all rich? Should have gotten a better look at their clothing. Check for designer labels and shit like that.

12. This is a GD op, not a Bernie Sanders group op IMO.

Where's your link to "well-dressed rich people"? Who's opinion is that? What time of the day was this event? Do you expect people to walk off their jobs to attend? If you're homeless and out in the street chances are everyone else looks rich. You might try to keep boarder line ops out of this group. We're here to learn and post about Bernie and his positions on issues.
