and has become a disappointment in his last year as POTUS? He's championing the TPP, which is such a disaster that I don't even know where to start. He's done nothing to rein in the FDA and the people he placed in there, when he has nothing to lose now. Big Pharma is out of control, people on Medicare are killing themselves or being killed by their spouses because they can't afford medications which cost 5x as much here than they do in any other country.
Am increasingly disillusioned with Obama. To me, this relates to a lack of soul, character and empathy for humans worldwide that I campaigned for for him on in '08 and '12, and a sad possible path of him being yet another past POTUS abettor in a quest for future gain. Jimmy Carter is still out building houses for Habitat for Humanity

(53,475 posts)... I knew he had betrayed us.
I've been political since '68 when I was first old enough to vote, and this election is such a disappointment to me as far as human rights goes, political games go.

(1,947 posts)what we even imagined then. Global warming, pollution, a growing world population, depletion of critical resources, armed conflict around the world, increased inequality, corporate rule--it's all tied together and it is much worse than the world we inherited. We need radical change--probably beyond what is even in the range of our political imaginations--and the powers that be muddle along offering too little too late, thinking that's good enough or the best that can be done.

(14,224 posts)It was his turn last time and will be Hillary's this time. It's all about image and making people feel good. The real power in the government is behind the scenes, people in the MIC/Security State we don't vote for and who remain in place regardless of the star in office.

(13,877 posts)Bureaucracy and The Beltway. That's both the good news and bad news about "insiders and outsiders "
The former understands and already had their insider group in line....which disavows the unwashed masses initially.
This second group quickly sees that these unwashed folk are pretty useless shortly after getting their vote. Then they begin the journey to the first group.Usually takes the first term to get it.
I think both Obama and Carter spent their first term learning, as did Bill Clinton. Different out comes.
Oligarchy with just enough democratic cover to fool people with their phony "social hotbuttons" to divvy up and divide the populous.
