http://www.commondreams.org/news/2016/05/10/new-polling-shows-sanders-not-clinton-most-formidable-against-trumpAs forces in both major parties have begun to mobilize against a Trump presidency, a new national poll out Tuesday reveals the most surefire way to derail the GOP frontrunner: Nominate Bernie Sanders.
The NBC News/SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll found that if the 2016 presidential election were held today, 53 to 40 percent of voters would elect Sanders over Donald Trumpwhich is more than double the margin that Hillary Clinton holds over the presumptive Republican nominee.
According to the survey, which was conducted online from May 2 through May 8, the former secretary of state also leads Trump, but with a far smaller margin: 49 to 44 percent, with an error estimate of plus or minus 1.3 percentage points.
Meanwhile, a separate poll found that in key presidential swing states the anointed nominees are running neck and neck.
The latest Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday shows Clinton beating Trump by just one point43 to 42 percentin both Florida and Pennsylvania. In Ohio, the real estate mogul holds a four-point lead over Clinton, with 43 to 39 percent.
Echoing the NBC News findings, Sanders bests Trump in all three of those states' hypothetical match-ups. The Vermont senator leads by two percentage points in both Florida and Ohio (44-42 percent and 43-41 percent, respectively) while beating Trump 47 to 41 percent in Pennsylvania.

(24,010 posts)...when I first started paying attention to these polls. It's now beyond April, and these match-up polls have even more strength as predictors. In fact, I just read somewhere that match-ups in April are reliable predictors for what will happen later in the year.
If we choose the right candidate.
Clinton has serious weakness in these polls. She even loses to Trump in one national match-up, and she loses to Trump in one of these 3 swing states. Combined with her dismal polls on trustworthiness and favorability, and a couple of other things, like the FBI cloud hanging over her head, she is looking like one of the worst candidates we could nominate.
I think there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of much better candidates sprinkled throughout the country--governors, senators, congress critters, mayors, who are doing great jobs serving their constituents, people who have roots, who are not wanderers like Clinton looking for billionaires and banksters to sell out to, people who actually believe in democracy and who are actively addressing our society's problems. But we don't need them right now to run for president. One of those fine leaders has already stood up for true democracy and true problem-solving, and is ready to serve and will surely be one of the greatest presidents we have ever elected.
Bernie Sanders, whom we know can beat Trump.

(260 posts)I was just going to make a comment about this. I was surprised to see that even Bernie's lead is narrowing. He's not fairing much better than Hillary now.
