Recidivism Watch: Clinton’s claim on ‘material marked classified’ (The Washington Post)

“There was never any material marked classified that was sent or received by me.”

— Hillary Clinton, interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” May 8

One of Clinton’s standard lines about her email system popped up again over the weekend. We had examined this claim in detail back in August, noting that Clinton’s very careful and legalistic phrasing raises suspicions.

She refers to “material,” which could be code for documents, leaving open the possibility of “classified information” having been received. She also says she did not receive “any material marked classified,” which of course leaves open the possibility of receiving classified information that was not correctly marked. We gave her Two Pinocchios for excessively technical wordsmithing.

I'll pass, and it's interesting to see more in the media doing so as well.

I instantly caught the "material marked classified" dance around words. I am also noticing many more "uh's" than usual in her speaking style. Choosing her words carefully.
