that they were being infiltrated.

People were suspicious of DUers who joined using other than their DU username. It was a paranoia with a ritualized enemy that encompassed my own membership. My personality doesn't do well with that sort of thing.

I swore I wouldn't bad mouth them when I left, and in telling my own experience I'm verging on breaking my vow to myself.

I hope they've moved beyond identifying themselves as exiles or diasporants from here. I hope they are now strong enough to not have silly things bother them.

But, my experience was that I went and saw my presence, and those of other newcomers there, challenged because of choosing different usernames for what was supposed to be a site independent of here.

but bluntly, it was all in your own head.

I have been a member since day two, a mod a few weeks thereafter, and am now one of two super-moderators.

During the first month, there were a few Clinton supporters who had created two vile attack sites against Sanders supporters that did try to troll the site. We simply closed their accounts and moved on.

No one challenges anyone over user names. Hell, some of us kept the same ones, and others have changed them in order to move on. The only rule about that is using symbols which I believe is due to the software.

We have one hard and fast rule which is no kvetching about other sites like DU. If you want to criticize the obvious Third Way financial ties, go right ahead. That's politics. But if you want to bitch about a post being hidden, whine about a DU user, or bring any sort of melodrama over from here to there, we will ask you to delete it immediately. If you don't, we lock the threads and delete them ourselves.

We are an independent site. We are for traditional FDR progressives and leftists. We invite all independents and third party people to come and discuss, hell even argue, in a place unlike DU where they are not called fucking selfish children. We have the goal of getting Sanders elected, and we are still fighting for that goal. Plus we have a very active forum for all of the down-ticket people who are running for office inspired by the Sanders revolution. We accept Berner or Busters and we have no problem if you decide to vote for Clinton in the GE. We are not DU.

Perhaps you had a bad day. Perhaps you saw the few trolls early on. Perhaps a singular member made a comment about usernames. I welcome you though to come over again and check us out. I truly know you got a wrong impression of the site.

You are basically making us out to be like a Trump rally when in actuality we are a Sanders rally all the way down to the free hugs.

Like I said, I am a moderator. I know exactly what has happened since day two including things that you do not because they were behind the scenes.

You may perceive it as rude, and it is not. I am simply setting the record straight from a position of greater knowledge of the site, the workings since day one, and what our very few rules are there.

Come join us. Don't come join us. You are an adult who can make your own choices. But please also realize that if you throw out a negative post that does not conform with the actual realities of the situation at hand on a public forum, there will be some that will challenge you on it and attempt to correct the misconceptions.

I just want to add that I really won't argue further about another site here at DU. It wouldn't be appropriate. So I have said my piece.

Don't they realize whenever they do that, they help harden people against Hillary and the 3 Way? There is a ripple effect involved here.
If the owners here don't get their act together, they could end up with an expensive and well equipped site, with excellent software and a few fanatical members in an echo chamber. Somehow I don't think they really want that.
Even DI is friendlier and has better respect for each other than DU has had for years. And it is all the same people on DU causing the problems, so you'd think it would be fairly easy to correct. Doing so could make Democratic Underground actually live up to its name.

The political value of DU is how it looks to interested outsiders who read it. This is how people are influenced and persuaded.

They're trying to "cull our herd" so the site appears to favor Hilllary.

We need a strategy for dealing with this.

They are manufacturing consent. In order to do that, you silence voices in opposition. You dismiss them. You make those voices and those people into caricatures. You call them names and lobby insults at them. You say that they are selfish and not leftists if they won't follow the Democratic Party line.

It is hard to fight it. The only strategy I know is to continue to own our own adult choices and thoughts. We fight back against every attempt to marginalize us and dismiss us. We remind them quite vocally that without our votes no one on the left in a two party system wins.
