Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumMy husband just switched from I to D to cast a primary vote for Bernie.
I am stunned. I never thought he would EVER change his Independent status. But last night, out of nowhere, he told me that he switched to D for the primary, with plans to switch back to I the day after.
When I expressed surprise, he laughed and said, "Yeah, I feel pretty dirty." I told him that we didn't make the rules, but, imo, there's no reason not to work within the rules to affect the change we want. (We live in a state where Independents are completely shut out of primaries. I know not all states are like that.)
So now my family will have 4 primary votes to give to Bernie--1 in New York, and 3 in PA! And our Bernie sign is shining brightly in our window tonight!

(23,867 posts)I'm really curious about this kind of transformation. Maybe it's the lesser of two evils, but still, why Bernie? Thanks

(1,249 posts)That showed him clearly that votes matter, and the lack of even a few can have disastrous results. He doesn't want to share the responsibility for enabling an inferior candidate (HRC) to run against a truly terrifying candidate (Trump).
But he has always been disgusted with party politics, and it took a lot for him to align with one, even for a short time. It took Bernie.

(46,682 posts)I voted for Bernie in the Fl primary and will switch back to Independent if he doesn't make it through. I don't have to be a registered Democrat to vote for Clinton, if it comes to that. But, since the Dem party will be controlled by neo-liberal policies, it will be easier to hold my breath, just for the time it takes to pull the lever. I don't identify with their brand of "pragmatic" corruption.

(1,673 posts)Obama talked the talk but he did not walk the walk.
After proving who he really was by his deeds during the first 4 years I figured the Democratic party was at best the Republican party in stealth mode. The Democratic party is bought and paid for, just like the Republicans
As far as i am concerned, Obama is a DINO.
As for Bernie, he has been talking the talk and walking the walk for a very long time.
When I listen to what he says and what he has done, I can not find one issue he supports or act has done that I do not agree with. He is the only candidate I can say that about since Robert Kennedy ran for president.... that is almost 50 years go.
I will be voting for Bernie for president.
If his name is not on the ballot I will write it in.
I will not vote for anybody else.
After the election i will change back to the Green party.

(22,000 posts)But I am seriously considering changing my party affiliation after the primary. I'm going to wait and see what happens. Personally I'm sick of the way the party is run.
