(29,167 posts)Are you going to track race/ethnicity? That's another of The Big Lies; only whites are Sanders supporters.

(3,577 posts)It is only about age and gender and makes no assumptions about race and ethnicity. Adding black and Hispanic would make this poll three times longer, so that's probably not feasible. Better to start another poll to capture that aspect. (Sorry, I don't have time.)

(6,785 posts)Sanders supporters are totally all white dudes under 25.
Sanders campaign is so powerful it apparently made me white and ten years younger without me noticing.

(29,167 posts)My gender was flipped and I'm 50 years younger.
On the other, aren't there suppose to be a lot of young women on the prowl for some Berniebro action? Like their Chosen One, Camp Weathervane seems to have a problem keeping its stories straight.
JoeyT
(6,785 posts)That was one of the most nonsensical attacks I've seen on a candidate's supporters to date.

(29,167 posts)I imagine Steinem wishes she could suck those words right back in her mouth. When Camp Weathervane can't defend you, that's a serious FUBAR.

(6,785 posts)I don't remember waking up with random joints hurting or having to worry about what I ate in my 20s. Maybe they did and my memory is just gone too.

(12,471 posts)I will always state Human Race as my race, and Earthling as my ethnicity.

(4,622 posts)I am a F over 50 and I am Native American. My husband is Asian, he supports Bernie. My hubbies best friend is from Guyana and his family supports Bernie. Maybe there is a racial divide somewhere, but I'm not seeing it in his supporters from Oklahoma, we seem to be a diverse lot, with only one thing in common. We WILL vote blue no matter who.

(34,528 posts)One very tech savvy Bernie supporter in my county, for example, is a 17-yr old who can't vote in the primaries but will be 18 by Nov. He has a Facebook account and very active Twitter account. I'm sure he's on Reddit as well - I don't go on there much. Great kiddo working hard for Bernie

(2,526 posts)I will say DU has the feel of an old AOL chatroom.

(34,528 posts)I am female, white, just under 50 myself.
I'm interested in racial breakdown as well.
I definitely don't think we are all white male under 30 "bernie bros" though - I sort of think that is a made up thing. Although I hope to see them too because they are also humans - with many issues the rest of us have - low wages, health care, student loans, etc.

(15,206 posts)I'm an over 60 female and have gone from supporting Hillary, to liking Bernie but still supporting Hillary, to liking Bernie better, to being totally turned off by Hillary's tactics. The shenanigans in Nevada finally convinced me that I can't support her under any condition. We grandmothers have a pretty strong sense of fair play.

(34,528 posts)I was in my 20s and living in Washington DC when the Clintons came to town. I admired Hillary even as I saw the Clinton fund-raising meetings being held at the law firm I worked at. I still have old campaign buttons with her face on them upstairs somewhere. I will say that in the 80s-90s at least in DC it was still very much a male world. In the law firms there was still a dress code for women (written at some of them) to wear suits/skirts or nice pantsuits. I don't doubt that she had quite an experience being taken as seriously as Bill. I remember her "cookies" remark and couldn't blame her at all at that time. And I really don't know if deep down she is as conservative as she comes off, but that is the way she has decided to play her cards (referring to Kissinger, going no higher than a $12 minimum wage, dealing with the banks and the like). And the tactics she is using now to get through this primary disgust me. I do think she is very much a product of environment and time in history. Maybe it will carry her through to the White House, but I really don't think the odds are in her favor.

(2,125 posts)All us old broads, Boomers over 50, are in Bernie's camp. I'm very proud not to be Hillary's "base."

(29,167 posts)You don't have to have kids of your own in order to want all of them to have a good life and a bright future.
My son hasn't blessed me with a grandchild yet but I want everybody's children to have the best future possible.
Hillary's grandchildren will not have a worry in the world, someone has to worry about the other 99%. Go Bernie.

(1,588 posts)We have a clue! We've been there. We can see right through Hillary and her greed and deceit and lies and arrogance!
I worked really hard for what I have and was very fortunate to have some great opportunities, financial help for undergrad studies and a fellowship for grad school. While I am far from "wealthy", I want every young person to have what I had and if my taxes are raised to do that- to help young people- fine by me!

(2,968 posts)I wanted to do one of these a while back but found out
I couldn't! So right now more than 50% of us are over
50 females! So much for Hillary and her people. I'm so
proud that women my age are getting it. I was very disgruntled
with the Boomers! Especially the female Boomers!

(1,587 posts)I identify as white, though I'm about one-third Native American. I'm poor, only some college level classes, and worked mainly blue collar jobs all my life.
I haven't been blessed with grandchildren, but I know that it isn't about me and mine, it's about everyone. We're all in this together and we need to look out for each other for the benefit of all. That's how society works.
When the "social" aspect fails, you end up with feudalism, where the top few control everyone else and there's no opportunity to rise above your "class". My memory isn't what it used to be, but that sort of thing leads to bloody revolutions.

(1,268 posts)perhaps that can be interpreted as a good thing.
Hopefully we can be seen as more mature in our conversations than a 17year old who would likely engage in F-this and F-that, or some other unprofessional vocabulary.
In other words, we're more reasoned and seasoned.
(Ooh! I just discovered a new catch phrase)!
