Muscle Shoals, about a place filled with magic and music, legend and folklore . . .

MUSCLE SHOALS is a documentary about a place filled with magic and music, legend and folklore, where the river is inhabited by a Native American spirit who has lured some of the greatest Rock and Roll and Soul legends of all time, and drawn from them some of the most uplifting, defiant, and important music ever created. In Muscle Shoals, Alabama, music runs through the hills, the river, and the spirit of the people. It is a place where, even before the Civil Rights Movement really took shape, the color of your skin didn't matter inside the studio.

2. Origins of Southern Rock

"Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers,
And they've been known to pick a song or two.
Lord, they get me off so much.
They pick me up when I'm feelin' blue
Now how 'bout you?"

This movie documents the creation of some classic rock n' roll! The surprises never end!

3. Yes, musicians would enjoy watching the process.

PBS had it on 'Independent Lens' Monday night, April 21, 2014, though I rented the DVD over the weekend.

Mick Jagger (upright) and Keith Richards (slouchy) remember recording "You Gotta Move" and "Wild Horses" there. (Familiar footage from "Gimme Shelter" obligingly rolls.) Percy Sledge, Jimmy Cliff, Candi Staton, Clarence Carter, Greg Allman, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys are heard from, along with Johnson, Hawkins, Hood and other studio regulars; in one thrilling moment, Oldham teases from a Wurlitzer his seductive introduction to Franklin's career-changing "I Never Loved a Man the Way That I Love You."

4. Thank you for the welcome

I had no idea such famous people, groups, songs and albums came out of the Shoals.

And it is a well-made, interesting documentary.
