For example, I find a photo I like, right click and for Chrome I see 'copy image URL' then paste it into the message text box on DU.

If it's a photo YOU have locally on your pc, you gotta post it to a hosting site like Imgur, photobucket, etc. first, then follow the step above.

for you but I've been trying to do this and all I ever get is the address for the picture, the picture itself does not appear on the page. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I right click, go to properties and copy the address. Also tried dragging and that just opens a new browser window and closes the DU window where I'm trying to post. Tried with both snapfish and photobucket.

It should end in .jpg or the like.

If the URL ends in "/" or has no file extension, then the URL is to the page, not the picture, and will not work.

In other cases, if the picture is not yours, some sites do not allow hot linking of their pictures which steals their bandwidth.

I just checked and it is a jpg and the picture is mine - picture of my cat nursing her kittens - so I have to assume I'm just doing it wrong.

If the picture won't show, does at least the link to it display in your post? If not, try putting spaces every other letter near the beginning so we can see the web address. Like this:

[div class="excerpt" style="display:inline-block; margin-left:0.4615em; border:1px solid #bfbfbf; border-radius:0.4615em; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #bfbfbf inset;"]ht tp :/ /w ww.democraticunderground.com/imgs/logo.gif

Ok, I just tried but when I posted it gave me the Sorry. This person moved or deleted this image. But the address shows before I hit post.

Same when I try to type it out. Maybe something I need to do on photobucket?

Yours should look like this:

[div class="excerpt" style="display:inline-block; margin-left:0.4615em; border:1px solid #bfbfbf; border-radius:0.4615em; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #bfbfbf inset;"]http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y454/smallcat4/170972_100726450002041_26670_o_zps71259dab.jpg

If you copy that URL into your post, you should get this:

... there should be a section on your screen labeled 'Links to share this photo' (or a button with a chain link icon for mobile). Always copy the 'Direct' link and use that in your post. If it is still giving you problems, you know what forum to post your questions.
