Hello. I'm a retired Texas teacher.

Last edited Thu Dec 26, 2013, 01:19 PM - Edit history (1)

I have been a lurking reader on DU for ten years. DU has always been the first news site I check everyday. Now that I've retired from public school, I hope to have the time to be more actively involved. I taught in Houston schools for 33 years, mostly second grade, but also fourth and fifth grade science. I retired because I couldn't bear the teacher abuse or participate in the destruction of public education any longer. I'm now teaching preschoolers at my house. It is heaven. I am a dedicated democrat and a devout atheist. I am very happily divorced and have one grown daughter.

4. Thanks.

Science is the most fun to teach. Kids get excited over the littlest things. Watching the red line on a thermometer go up can make them squeal with delight. I hope your daughter has good teachers.

2. Welcome!

Have you really been here that long?

Have you ever seen my regular feature in the Lounge, William Shakespeare's Thought For The Day?

The newest edition goes up tomorrow.

Teachers ROCK!

My mother and my sister are both teachers. And we're all originally from San Antonio.

5. Yes, I have been lurking that long.

This place can be intimidating. The quality is unsurpassable. Thanks for the welcome. San Antonio is my favorite Texas city. It's walkable and feels like a small town.

3. Howdy

Hey,
Glad you finally decided to come out of the shadows of lurking. I usually offer some advice to poke around the groups a bit, but since you have been around for so long I guess that suggestion isn't needed.

Peace

6. Thanks for the welcome.

The groups and so much else are all new to me. It's like a whole new site since I signed on.

7. Glad to have you aboard.

33 years in HISD? You've damn sure paid some dues. If you haven't already, please join us in DU's Texas group.
