Greetings, DU,

I've been reading DU since the summer of 2008, when I found it somewhat calming to know that not everyone in America thought Sarah Palin was just awesome.

I've resisted the temptation to join DU for at least two reasons:

1. I tend to become obsessive
2. I'm rather curmudgeonly and don't always play well with the other children

Both of which can wreak havoc with me and others. But apparently I've run out of willpower, so here i am.

I've read some DUers disparaging MSNBC, and I don't get that. I think Rachel Maddow does an amazing job of clearly laying out a case for nearly every issue she covers. I feel the same about Chris Hayes, who I think is also a massively impressive ring master.

I also have a soft spot, some may say in my brain, for my fellow loud Irishmen Lawrence O'Donnell and Chris Matthews. I like Ed and Al, as well, and some of the newer ones seem good, too. But, I already watch too much damn tv (usually while doing other things, but still...) to get hooked on any more shows.

In addition to my MSNBC commitments, I have a one-hour-per-day, four-days-a-week session with Jon Stewart and, my hero, Stephen Colbert

Well, that's more than enough about me to start with. Thanks for having me and I hope you don't have to kick me out too soon.

9. Fellow Night Owl here

Our stories are very similar, as in '08 I too could not believe the world was mesmerized by the Palin-McCain ticket. She was similar to when Corporations hire pretty women to be Sales Reps. Men were too busy looking at their a$$ to think clearly, and for some reason women gave her a pass. DU bought me sanity. I had been scared th join and get addicted, but I say forget it now.As rabid and ignorant as the other side is, my own inequities could be overlooked.

Not really in a position to welcome others yet, but I did want to say hi.

IMO, MSNBC has some right leaners in the earlier hours.

Morning Joe, of course. Even Mika, who is supposed to be the balance to Joe, is not exactly a solid Democrat. For one thing, she was a Sarah Palin groupie in the beginning, until Sarah imploded.

And MSNBC got rid of professional racist and xenophobe Pat Buchanan only relatively recently. People had been complaining to MSNBC about him for years.

Finally, MSNBC goes after a Democratic audience, but is still under NBC News, which is definitely right leaning.

had a ghost of an excuse for his xenophobic, racist ass--he's and old xenophobic racist ass. Joe is a a cranky, pompous, bullying frat boy, or, as Donald Sutherland put it: Who is this idiot? Why is he there? He can’t even listen. He doesn’t conduct a decent conversation. He runs over everyone else’s words with a landslide of diarrhea.

As for Mika--what purpose does she serve? Is she developmentally delayed? On drugs? What? She is just useless.

Yeah, you're right about the rest. But, I think NBC news leans less right than most corporate media and the progressives they do allow are as far left as any mainstream tv outlet we have, so, kudos.

I like the Young Turks, but someone said recently that Cenk is a libertarian, which I'm not down with.
