Hi:
I've joined two boards this week. One Conservative and this one. I'm an Independent which means I'm likely to irritate the hell out of both boards. So be it. I can say that I have already met with petty insults and the label of being some kind of secret agent Liberal on the other board. Not surprising.
My first presidential vote was for Reagan. So was my second. My third was for Bush (the good one, not the idiot criminal) as was my fourth. But Clinton turned a corner for me and the evolution of the GOP from what they were to what they are, hasn't gained my vote for a GOP Presidential Candidate since.
I've lived all over the world but for all its' faults, I like America best.
I am the perfect demographic for the GOP: White, Christian, business-owning, veteran, gun-owning, 50 year old family man.
I've also published a book one book and am working on another. I think the people here might find the subject particularly interesting.
And I'm voting for Obama this year.
Not because I think he's a "great president". I don't. I give him about a "C+ to B-" at best.
But today's GOP, Tea Party, Libertarian group has just gone way off the reservation.
And it's not just the whackjobs like Michelle Bachmann who freak me out. It's the whole party.
So there's a lot I probably disagree with you guys on but I'm open-minded and I never insult unless insulted first.
I'll be curious to see what insights I gather here.
Also, it would be great to know how to follow / subscribe to threads.

(149,308 posts)I can certainly agree with you about today's GOP, Tea Party, Libertarian group! They are, as we like to say, bat-shit crazy!
I'm glad you found us, and I hope you get some good insights here. There are many voices here, super-intelligent ones.
