DU Community Help
Related: About this forumAre independent voters welcome here?
I've been blocked from discussing in a thread where we had a decent dialogue going because I am for lowering corporate tax rates... does that mean I'm not welcome here?

(68,918 posts)not here to slam on Dems, or espouse Republican "values" you should be fine. If you are an independent voter, who gets their opinion from Fox News and is only here to bash Obama, you will find out you are not welcome here rather quickly... by not being able to log in anymore.
Until that happens, Welcome to DU!

(16 posts)and I always track it back to the source. I'm always open to new ideas, but I'm pretty central about things. I was excited to find an active community, but I don't think I will be welcome here, as I don't always vote democrat.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to find somewhere else. Anyone know of a more accepting forum that has good activity?

(68,918 posts)Let's not try to spin it into something else. I have no idea where a Republican would go to post.

(16 posts)I'm really looking for discussion and sharing of ideas, rather than partisanship.

Don't be a wingnut (right-wing or extreme-fringe).
Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working within the system to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of political office. Teabaggers, Neo-cons, Dittoheads, Paulites, Freepers, Birthers, and right-wingers in general are not welcome here. Neither are certain extreme-fringe left-wingers, including advocates of violent political/social change, hard-line communists, terrorist-apologists, America-haters, kooks, crackpots, LaRouchies, and the like.
I hope this will help. I'm not sure about your stand on lowering corporate tax rates. That does tend to be a right-wing point of view.

(16 posts)I don't think either party has all the right ideas, but if the purpose is to support Democrats regardless(would you support a Democrat just because of the D even if you didn't agree with his views and he didn't toe the party line?)...
Thanks for the help. Have a nice day

(149,534 posts)I'm lucky out here in California; our representatives and senators are pretty good.
I do find the Republicans pretty loathsome at the national level. I would NEVER vote for any of them.

(37,540 posts)How much lower do you want to see corporate taxes go, assuming they are fully taxed and not hiding them in tax-free off-sore shelters, before you think they've been taxed ebough? Because, if you want to give tax breaks to corps and and the top 5%...you're federal/state/local taxes are going up. There's no free lunch, so I want you to tell us how you're willing to see your personal income taxes increase to compensate.

Some industries we have effective rates as high as 41%(statistic from CBO), others as low as 26%. From industry to industry we range from 2nd to 5th in highest rates among developed countries.
So, some industries could be brought down just a few percentage points and bring in a substantial amount of new investments. Others(such as 41% tax rate) should be brought down a bit more to match other industries.

(65,616 posts)I'm sorry, what was the question? 3rd party endorsements...as long as they are not running against a Democratic official in a race for office, then it is permitted.
