A couple in Gurnee,Illinois was arrested and charged with attempting to facilitate sex with a 13-year-old girl, which is completely messed up onits own. But the story becomes more of a symphony of WTF when you scrollondown past the article about the couple's arrest, into the comments, where everyone and their dirty uncle showsup to weigh inonhow it's probably the girl's fault, kind of, a little bit. Those little barely-teenage temptresses sure know their way around a group sexsituationnowadays,after all. What. The. Actual. Fuck.

The girl's mother discovered that something wasafoot when she looked through her daughter's cellphone and saw that she had been receiving "inappropriate" text messages from 21-year-old Kevin Pettitt and 25-year-old Gina Gusimano. A detective pretending to be the girl exchanged messageswith the couple and agreed to perform sex acts with them at a prearranged time, and whenGusimano showed up for their date, the couple was arrested. This sounds like an entirely clear cut,open and shut case of two a-holes trying to have sex with a teenager.

Nope! Not if you're one of the Chicago Tribune's online readerswho thinkthere must be more to the story. In fact,the comments after the piece skip entirely over the "My, what horrible people! I hope the girl gets whatever help and support she needs!" phase of Reacting to a Story of a Kid Being Propositioned and head straight to the "But What Did She Do to Deserve It?" territory. And that'swhenmy cranium heads for my desk, over and over again.

1. I have seen people blame the child before

I got into an online war of posts over a local news story where a former college athlete was charged with having sex with a 14 year old girl in a Church Youth group he oversaw. There was one guy that just kept blaming it on the girl and saying kids are experienced these days and she KNEW what she was doing. Of course the adult male, married with kids college graduate was just clueless and abused, I suppose. It is simply discusting! There are people who want to blame kids for their own abuse, and don't mind posting such!

4. When my daughter was a young teenager,

she went on a fan site for a certain boy band. She chatted with a certain "teenager" in our area who wanted to meet her. She started to question the way he was talking to her, and told her older sister. My older daughter went on the site and started chatting with, and finally calling out this guy. "I am 19 and xxx'S SISTER". "You don't want to meet ME?" That guy never again contacted either one of them that after that.

Although my daughter never came to me about this, at least she did talk to her older sister about it. Tell SOMEBODY.

7. Not surprising

A sexually, oh 'open' or 'free' or 'adventurous' couple, (although they look like they enjoy a little recreational crack; perhaps weekend heroin) clearly invested in how badass they are in the marital bad, well, it couldn't possibly be their fault for being sexual predators. Right? It'd HAVE to be the kid.

Looking at The Current State of Pornagraphy, with a plethora of entire internet sites devoted to those naughty 'teens' and their kinks. What's a poor perverted couple to do? Find a consenting adult? When the sex industry invests all the time, trouble and money into making it look like young girls really love undescriminating sex, anybody, anytime, anywhere and in any position? No, no-- said perverted couple, and subsequent commenters on the incident already know little girls are hot and asking for it. Everybody worth listening to says so.

Plus, it's you know, so Empowering to young women to be used in this way. Sex positive all the way.
