Related: About this forumTaliban publicly execute woman near Kabul: officials
(Reuters) - A man Afghan officials say is a member of the Taliban shot dead a woman accused of adultery in front of a crowd near Kabul, a video obtained by Reuters showed, a sign that the austere Islamist group dictates law even near the Afghan capital.
In the three-minute video, a turban-clad man approaches a woman kneeling in the dirt and shoots her five times at close range with an automatic rifle, to cheers of jubilation from the 150 or so men watching in a village in Parwan province.
"Allah warns us not to get close to adultery because it's the wrong way," another man says as the shooter gets closer to the woman. "It is the order of Allah that she be executed".
Provincial Governor Basir Salangi said the video, obtained on Saturday, was shot a week ago in the village of Qimchok in Shinwari district, about an hour's drive from Kabul.

Meanwhile here in the USA:
Father suspected of killing wife, 2 children, self in Oregon murder-suicide
(CBS/AP) DUNDEE, Ore. - An Oregon man whose wife filed for divorce in May is suspected of killing her and their two children on the Fourth of July at their home and then committing suicide, police said Thursday.
The four family members were found dead Wednesday after a caller told police about an alarming post on the Facebook social network.
All four had been shot, police said. An autopsy was planned for Thursday.
Investigators believe that 37-year-old Randall Engels killed his 35-year-old wife, Amy, and their school-age children, said Capt. Jeff Kosmicki of the Newberg-Dundee police. The family had lived for several years in Dundee, about 25 miles southwest of Portland.

(3,621 posts)2. Local news had more info
When Amy Engels filed for divorce, she asked a Yamhill County judge to issue an emergency temporary custody and parenting order, citing an "immediate danger" to her children.
"My husband has threatened to steal them and not return them," she said in an affidavit. "He has threatened to hurt them. He yells at them and makes them feel nervous and upset."
A handwritten decision read, "Denied danger not established." It was signed by Circuit Judge Cal Tichenor.

The judge has issued a statement that he made the correct decision. There was no evidence that the husband would harm the children.
What constitutes evidence in a case like this?

(36,221 posts)3. That is mortifying.
Yet, you will hear all the time how women are lying about stuff like this.
The statistic is that three women a day are killed by their significant other. To me, that is an epidemic. Yet, the news is never covered this way.
You can search daily for stories like this and they aren't hard to find. A couple of new ones every single day.
