Related: About this forumYou may trod me down in the very dirt, But still, like Dust I'll rise
They can say,
Anything they want to say,
Try to bring me down,
[img][/img]
But I will not allow anyone to succeed hanging clouds over me,
I will not face the ground
And they can try
How to make me feel that I,
Don't matter at all,
But I refuse to falter in what I believe or loose faith in my dreams
'Cause there's,
There's a light in me,
That shines brightly,
They can try,
But they can't take that away from me
From me
There's an inner peace I own,
Something in my soul that they can not possess
So I won't be afraid and the darkness will fade
Tell me what I believe or loose faith in my dreams,
'Cause there's a light in me,
That shines brightly yes
They can't take this
Precious love I'll always have inside me,
?
They can try but they can't take that away from
Me
From me
No no nooo
Me

(86,536 posts)I have been sad lately and I needed this, so much crap and lol so little time.
So many beautiful strong women here on DU. The song
No oh oh,
They can't take this
Precious love I'll always have inside me,
They can say
Anything they want to say,
Try to bring me down,
But I won't face the ground,
I will rise steadily sailing out of their reach,
Although they do try,
How to make me feel that I,
Don't matter at all,
But I refuse to fall,
Tell me what I believe or loose faith in my dreams,
'Cause there's a light in me,
That shines brightly yes

(83,738 posts)husband's passing, and is still dealing with it. One of those things with mourning that I think many of us are discovering - in which it takes HOW-EVER LONG IT TAKES. Nobody can tell you how long you're supposed to process it and come to terms with it. Nobody can dictate some overriding time-line of "getting over it". It just takes how-ever long it takes. A bunch of us from my high school graduating class are getting together again online, updating each other on our lives and passages, looking to plan another reunion on our own (the school has nothing to do with it - that's kinda how our whole class was, unruly and independent as hell) because the last one was so utterly terrific!
We're all struggling with, and trying to come to terms with, the various "accoutrements" of aging. Loss of parents and other elders, loss of spouses, loss of siblings, loss of our own independence, divorce, separation, remarriage, disconnections, triumphs and betrayals, changing health conditions some of us now face, the lot. This particular friend has the blues these days.
I saw this thread and just loved it to pieces! I'd read my friend's email earlier in the day, yesterday. Last night I stumbled upon your thread here. I immediately thought of her, and sent her a link to it. It's just so exquisitely lovely and reaffirming! One of the best photo essays I've ever seen for help in buoying up. Beautiful and reaffirming and empowering. Just the thing my friend needs, methinks.
So I thank you heartily for this, and for that, too! ("This and That" as the late great Bette Davis would say!)

(86,536 posts)I hope it helps your friend. We all mourn differently and yes, people need to take all the time to go through the stages.

(42,404 posts)You can become part of the rising on Feburary 14th ---just change the year--I'm part of our local group
There are 7 billion people on the planet. Half are women. One third of them are raped or beaten.
V-Day refuses to watch as more than one billion women experience violence. V-Day is going further now, saying no more.
We're inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to walk out, dance, rise up and demand an end to this violence.
On 2.14.13, we will move the earth, activating women and men to dance across every country. The celebration of One Billion Rising will be a WORLD HAPPENING
In advance of our 15th anniversary, join V-Day and One Billion Rising to SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS. Sign up to learn more and join the global call.

Tell a friend about One Billion Rising!
One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.
One billion women violated is an atrocity.
One billion women dancing is a revolution.
