It's safe to say that without female voters, Democrats would lose almost every major election

Tonight they won the Virginia gubernatorial race

They won the 2012 Presidential race.
They almost certainly won the 2008 Presidential race.

Women consistently vote more often for the Democrat and usually by a fairly large margin. As opposed to men who, when they actually don't vote for the Republican, just barely manage to break in favor of the Democrat.

Female - 51% of voters
Share of the Dem vote 51% (+5%)

Male - 49% of voters
Share of the Dem vote 45% (+8%)

I know there are larger cultural issues at play. I was simply looking at the exit polling data. The demographics are fairly close on gender lines. I think the ethnicity, race and age stats are significant, as well.
