#FOIA requests of #DHS reveal a burgeoining "secret political police" deadset on crushing dissent #OWS
http://www.justiceonline.org/commentary/new-documents-reveal-dhs.html

The first trove of FBI documents obtained by the PCJF in December 2012 exposed that the FBI treated the Occupy movement, even before the first tent went up in lower Manhattan, as a potential criminal and terrorist threat in spite of the fact that the FBI acknowledged that the OWS organizers explicitly called for peaceful protests.

In preparation for planned protests in New York City on October 15, 2011, the DHS documents show coordination between federal and local authorities to use New York City’s permitting scheme to frustrate, obstruct or stop free speech activities.

In the case of the New York City protest, the documents reveal how even the most elementary exercise for conducting a lawful protest activity was the subject of information sharing and cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies. This was the case when the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement sought a permit for a march with the purpose, as the DHS states, “to recognize the African slaves used to build Wall Street.” DHS reports on how the NYPD denied the sound permit for the planned activity and how the permit application was “kicked back and forth by the City, GSA and NPS. …” (p. 35)

As the federal and local governments and law enforcement agencies engaged in a concerted, coordinated crackdown to evict Occupy protests from public spaces in the last months of 2011, DHS officials shared and coordinated strategies. For instance, the DHS District Commander in Detroit directly communicated with a law enforcement official who was “tasked with coming up with an exit strategy for us." After writing that he had heard in the news that encampments were "broken up in California and Georgia," the DHS District Commander continued, "What is the plan for the Occupy Detroit group in Grand Circus Park? I have been reporting daily and sending it up.” (p. 115)

The elected officials only PRETEND that they are in charge, because actually firing and prosecuting those who abuse their power would step on 1% toes....

Naomi Wolf article eg, about the obvious Federal Coordination of the brutal assaults on peaceful OWS protesters.

And on anyone, no matter how reputable, who came to the obvious conclusion that these attacks were coordinated at a Federal Level.

I recall also that the UN Rappateur become concerned for the safety of the American people who were exercising their rights to protest peacefully and asked the US Government to protect them. There was no response from our government.

Also, when two Iraq War Vets were brutally beaten, nearly to death for exercising the 'freedoms' we hear so much about that they were told they were fighting for, NOT ONE of our elected officials went to visit either of them to see how they were doing.

There never was any doubt about the coordination of those disgraceful attacks on peaceful protesters. Even more disgraceful was that anyone here even attempted to deny it and/or excuse it in any way.

OWS exposed a lot more than Wall St. crimes.

6. In a right-wing soused society, domestic right-wing extremist groups are mostly allowed to roam free

with their stochastic terrorists free to egg on the deranged to act out their hate/anger whereas left-wing groups peacefully protesting Wall Street abuse, greed, and fraud are treated by big brother as potential criminal and terrorist threats and showered with evictions, harassment, assaults, pepper-spraying, and arrests. Oh, the exquisite joys of living in a right-wing soused society are far too numerous to enumerate.

protesting, non-violence, is far more threatening to them than violent protests.

Reading the documents, seeing the extent to which the DHS goes to watch OWS, shows how concerned they are about the truth being told about Wall St.

This country's history of supporting Right Wing dictators and backing coups against left leaning democratically elected leaders is shameful. But I don't think most Americans were or are aware of how we so often support the bad guys, yet. It certainly isn't taught in our schools.

If, eg, we really were a democracy, OWS would have been protected and welcomed, certainly by Democrats at least. Instead it was viewed as the 'enemy' to the point of using the Department of Homeland Security, set up we are told, to protect us from terrorists, to monitor them. If that doesn't demonstrate where this country is, nothing does.

for protests to prevent them from protesting?

How clever of them. Then how about the people simply exercise their Constitutional rights and not bother with the 'permit' thing.

Just show up and protest. We have the right to do so. Let them take their permits and shove them.

Who hates us 'for our freedoms' again??
