2016 Democratic straw poll

Although I'm certain President Obama will win this year, campaign 2016 unofficially begins Wednesday, November 7 - just nine months from now. Here are a few of the names being tossed around, courtesy of the NY Times. Who is your horse in the race - and why? (Feel free to add your own.)

(admins - sure would like to see the polls feature programmed. )

1. Gov. Martin O’Malley of Maryland
2. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York
3. Sec. of State Hillary Rodham Clinton
4. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia
5. Vice President Joe Biden
6. Future Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren
7. Gov. Deval L. Patrick of Massachusetts
8. Former Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia
9. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel

None of these have made any official overtures and the nominee is likely to be someone not even on the radar now. My sentimental favorite is Hillary Clinton (who has stated she will pass.) My realistic favorite is Gov. Cuomo though I'd love to see debates with any combination of these because of the combined brain power and experience.

Clearly her message is something that is resonating. I cannot imagine any candidate igniting and unifying the Party on the national level at this time and for the foreseeable future who does not have a message of economic populism. I think the paradigm shift in public consciousness regarding income disparity has created a new litmus test and a new minimal requirement. But it is a little too early to know how Sen. Warren will be seen by 2016. There also may very well be someone out there who is not currently on the national radar who will be inspiring enthusiasm before 2016 rolls around.

And has a real record of proven results from VA. He really rescued the state from collapse put in motion by Jim Gilmore. Not to mention Warner fixed it in less than 4 years.

He pulls plenty of conservative voters because he knows how to talk to them, for being a very rich man, he doesn't come off as elitist. The OWS bunch will probably hate him from the word go.

Unlike the guy in your avatar, who had so much charisma, he could easily talk anyone into supporting his cause.

Warner is a good guy from a swing state, but he would fair poorly in the primary because I don't see anyone willing to go to the mat for him - like they would an Obama or Clinton.

He reminds me of a 2012 version of '88's Al Gore. And that's not a knock, just reality. Too conservative and too boring (did you hear his keynote speech at the '08 convention?) to shake things up.

I'm far from being the only one who hopes that she changes her mind.

Forgot to add, for all of you who keep mentioning Elizabeth Warren, she's only 2 years younger than Hillary.

Age is the one thing that no one is mentioning about Gingrich (68) and Ron Paul (70s). Why should it be an issue for Hillary? Besides, women tend to live longer than men and her mother passed away last year at 92 (and her mind was still sharp).

My 94 year old neighbor is in great shape. She has a memory like a steel trap, she lives by herself and still volunteers at our church lunch program for the homeless on a daily basis.

It's not age, but physical and mental ability.

that's the problem with the national media too. As soon as Obama wins they will begin writing about the 2016 election. We will also have an important 2014 election in between.
