Yep, if it wasn't for talk radio show host Thom Hartmann, Bernie probably wouldn't have been as big of a thorn on Hillary as he is now.
I've heard Thom Hartmann many times within the last seven years. And one of the fixtures on that show had been "Brunch with Bernie," a weekly town hall meeting with Bernie on the first hour of Thom's friday show. Through the show, over many years, Bernie has had access to millions of Thom Hartmann's listeners (Thom had about 2.75 million listeners as of 2013). Bernie comes on other progressive talk shows, but only on the Thom Hartmann show has he been a fixture.
I remain convinced that without Thom Hartmann, Bernie wouldn't have had such a quick and initial success in getting the first donations and thus wouldn't have gotten the momentum going as fast to get to where he is today.

ON EDIT:
I forgot to also mention that in that hour on Thom's show, Bernie would make a short speech about the state of affairs (often sounding like one of his stump speeches), what was going on in Washington, legislation that he was preparing, etc..., and for the rest of the hour Bernie would take calls from just about anyone, unfiltered I believe.

(3,133 posts)podcast pundit swaying opinion over the Internet, over banking ties and corruption any day. Hillary has MSM, a now corporate run enterprise. Those were OUR airwaves singed away by Bill Clinton with the Communications Act of 1996. Corporate owned TV that appears to be serving the Clinton's just fine.
Bernie Sanders is ahead in IA and NH and they don't schedule him to be on MSM tonight after his planned speech, on reforming Wall Street. instead, Hillary is now scheduled to be on Hardball tonight to talk about her Wall Street plan, that people will hear en mass. Remember the 30 seconds Bernie got on MSM???????
Oh.....but Bernie got the help of an Internet podcast. You know...the shows that MSM say have zero credibility?
Hartman's listeners go to him on their own, while they can go anywhere on the Internet. TV? Not so much. We are stuck with what they shove down our throats via very high costing cable tv, to which I refer to as 'angertainment'.
Thom got to where he is on his own, not by doing favors for corporate sponsors.
All of what is known today regarding our media, and the numbers in MSM for Trump, Clinton, and Bernie, it's just fucking amazing that Hillary supporters say Bernie got his kick off from Hartman, almost in an unfair way. Oh...if it weren't for Hartman.....
Bullshit! I've known Bernie and have been a fan for YEARS!!! He should have tons of coverage, or how about as much as Hillary, as they are both candidates?

(19,926 posts)Thom only allows that if the politician is willing to take unscreened calls from listeners. No one out there is willing to do that. If they aren't, they don't get the air time.
So it remains that Bernie is where his is today because he is the REAL DEAL. But of course the vehicle of Thom's show is what got him the recognition. Love Thom Hartmann.
The only exception that I know of is O'Malley. Thom said they had trouble with schedules so he pre-taped an interview with him and then aired it. But I'm sure Thom didn't allow a list of questions to be handed to him or a list of no-no questions.
Side note: did anyone get to hear the whole show yesterday? I was wondering if he mentioned the Feel the Bern Rose Parade March.

I have no idea what Clinton has to do with the main point of your op. I don't think you will get Clinton supporters trashing Hartmann like Sanders supporters do to every single Clinton supporter. Seems that is your effort here.

(2,227 posts)The thing about brunch with Bernie, he took cold call questions and answered every one. If he didn't know the answer, he promised to find it out. Just my guess, Hillary would have to have all calls screened and Thom will never do that, so, that's why Hillary ignores his invites to his show.

(30,481 posts)I think it's awesome that Sanders has a voice on the show. I want more of that.

(19,926 posts)It started when he dared say something critical of Obama and lately there's a couple Hillary supporters who insist that he bashes her on his show, something he refuses to do. It seems to be limited to a couple die hards though, I will give you that.
Hartmann has extended his invitation to all candidates to be on his show. He had an interview with O'Malley since the primary started. Not sure why Hillary hasn't been on.

(30,481 posts)And if someone hasn't bad mouthed damn near every politician at some point then the problem is theirs. I have personally spoken negatively about all three of our current candidates. I also think it's a great field we have.

(19,537 posts)... over the years, that he's provided an avenue for their voice being heard, and they providing a beacon for voices for him to be tuned in to by so many over the years. It is a collective win for all of us when we have a great media person like Thom Hartmann who in corporate media is the kind of person they try to keep out to help them keep their topics focused on "tabloid journalism" things like what Kim Kardashian is wearing or smoking today, that used to be only on magazines in our checkout lanes in grocery stores in the old days... And we can also hear about the issues and the people that will help bring back our democracy on his show, and see the right wing confronted with the truth and have to explain themselves in the face of it too.
