Democratic debate thread.
I will start it since everybody else seem intent on infighting.
Just tuned in. We have George Snuffalupagus, Donna Brazile, Cokey Roberts, and some dude moderating. I invite DUers to contribute as long as we all stick to the debate topics. Have at it DUers. Let's be polite.

3. Not a very constructive start. Let's let the candidates speak before we judge.
And no, I am not a big Snuffalupagus fan, nor necessarily a Brazile fan, nor a Roberts fan. I don't know about the other guy.
Let's stay constructive here and address the debate and not necessarily the commentary which we know where that will go, no matter what side one takes. |

...IMO, dress and appearance are part of the whole shtick ... and IMO, comments on whether or not someone is going the right way or wrong way on his/her appearance...I think that is an OK subject. Like, IMO, Hillary finally has a hair style that fits her. I like it. I also think that MOM looks presidential...at least in the Harrison Ford manner.

173. The breach I read lasted only 40 minutes.
There is no allegation that the Sanders hacked Hillary's database but rather thatthe vendor's firewall did not function. That is my understanding.
The problem is that the vendor did not protect the information. If Bernie's campaign had been guilty of hacking or something like that, Bernie would not have sought an injinction in court because he would not have been able to argue that his campaign had clean hands, and the sDNC would not have given in so easily. Bernie dismissed his employee for taking advantage of the vendor's error, but the vendor made the original error. |

Ed Rendell as DNC Chair wasn't particularly helpful to John Kerry in 2004.
Nobody that I can recall has done a better job than Howard Dean. I remain in awe of his 50-state strategy that Obama tapped into to a brilliant victory in 2008. Best damn ride of my life politically. |

175. mcauliff, the current governor of VA, was the DNC chair
As such, he was awful. He chose the date of the convention which led to Kerry having to spend his genuine funds over 13 weeks vs 8 for Bush. A significant disadvantage. In addition, he did nothing to get state parties in good shape. It was almost as if the DNC saw 2004 as a year it would be better not to even try in many states. ( Not just for President, but for anything)
I agree that DWS was a disaster in 2014, when I think she agreed with the public stepping away from Obama. This may have been her infatuation with all things Clinton, buy it was really bad as strategy. The way she handled the data problem was horrible. I think, even though I would prefer a better nominee, the nominee will be Clinton. I don't think her handling of this - versus Dean's in 2008 - helps in bringing everyone behind her. |

179. McAullife. Yes, of course.
It's no coincidence that when the DNC is in the hands of a Clinton advocate, the party loses. It was a real disservice to John Kerry. When Hillary loses (either in the primary or general), it will be schadenfreude, a karmic payback. In 2014, it was Bill Clinton who promoted the strategy of candidates turning their backs on the president. Alison L. Grimes took that advice and got her ass handed to her, the delicious irony being Pres Obama garnered more votes than she did in Kentucky. Bill Clinton only supported those people that endorsed Hillary in '08, and most of those Third Way candidates lost. I hope 2016 puts an end to the Clinton stranglehold on the Democratic Party. Otherwise, they will succeed in driving away long time Democrats and a brand new pool of young voters away from an already dwindling party. Gallup has the breakdown at 43% Independents, 30% Democrats, and 26% Republicans.

There is NOTHING funny about it.
O’Malley puts forward a vision for national security. 'In a wide-ranging speech to a conference of the Truman National Security Project, the former Maryland governor also cited a need to to improve human intelligence in foreign countries and said that bolstering the U.S. economy is central to the country’s strength abroad. “No fighter jet or troop battalion will keep us as safe as a vibrant economy, a strong democracy and a growing middle class,” O’Malley said in his speech at a Washington hotel.' >>> https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/06/26/omalley-puts-forward-a-vision-for-national-security/ |

This story is not over. I bet more will come out.
Nevertheless, any of Bernie's employees who saw it had to go. Of course, thevendor who was responsible for safekeeping and enabling legitimate access to each team's access is the problem here I would guess. The question is whether, since so many key figures in the company thati is the vendor and manager of the databases kept the information secure from Hillary's campaign. That company is full of people with ties to Hillary. Bernie's campaign manager talked about a prior breach in October. BerniE apologized, but I don'rtthink lthhis scandal is anywhere near over. My take
Bernie's natural personality comes over as a crotchety old man to someone raised in the south but probably just a regular guy to folks from the northeast. In a world sense they need to see him as forceful. He's a general unknown so he's got to turn it up now. Hillary doesn't need to act forceful. The world knows she's got a steel spine already. She's got the luxury of feeling forceful and being calm externally at the same time. Martin is also a relative unknown and feels the need to look tough. Unfortunately his natural personality is soft and calm I think so when he tries to look like he's got a little asshole in him he just kind of looks like a nice man pretending to be an asshole. Which is probably why he's having so much trouble getting traction. |

162. Backdoor (aka key escrow) Clipper Chips and Skipjack encryption are a Bill Clinton era idea
I believe HRC still thinks it's a good idea. And it's horribly BAD idea.

171. She just did it again! Hillary bulldozes her way through time that is not hers! She defies...
...the moderator too and ignores their attempts to keep control of the debate!

174. That is the moderators fault for not controlling the debate.
The moderaters failed miserably to control the debate. Each candidate wanted to get their 2 cents worth. Mrs. Clinton was allowed to speak beyond her time so did Mr. Sanders.
All in all, it was a great debate! Call me silly, but I love all three of the Dem candidates. Anyone of them will be a powerful ally to our PM, Mr. Justin Trudeau! |

177. They tried to stop her over and over and she got louder and louder and DID NOT STOP. That...
...IS NOT the moderators fault. I know what I saw and she did more than once.

Once a candidate's time is up, their mic should be cut... no matter who it is.
