PPP: Obama leads in Connecticut by 13-points & Murphy leads McMahon

A new Public Policy Polling survey in Connecticut finds Rep. Chris Murphy (D-CT) just ahead of Linda McMahon (R) in the U.S. Senate race, 48% to 44%.

The poll confirms results of a Quinnipiac poll yesterday that also found this race unexpectedly close.

Meanwhile, President Obama leads Mitt Romney in the presidential race by 13 points, 53% to 40%.

No way things could have changed that rapidly in that Senate race.

She did this the last time too. The margin closed between she and Blumenthal (far, far superior person), once the fall campaign got underway, Blumenthal pulled away. The same will happen with Murphy.

Bluemnthal had been state A.G. for many years and had extremely high visibility as a consumer protection activist fighting for the little guy against the big bad corporations. He was never out of the spotlight for very long. He showed up at every event he could and shook hands with every person he could.

Murphy is great and has the advantage of being a U.S. Congressman. But he is not real well known outside of his district, altho his ads are playing a lot here now. Those ads are very effective, showing how he has found a way to increase jobs in the state. He is personalble, young and handsome. He is devoutly pro-choice and pro-women. He has a lovely family. He just comes across as a really good guy, fresh and energetic. Linda has an "old hack" feel about her. There is no excitement in her political ads. She can run them as much as she wants, but they don't inspire much of anything.

My Chris Murphy sign has been on my front lawn since before the primary on August 14, soon to be joined by my Obama/Biden sign next week!

But he needs lots of resources to get ads up on tv and fliers out. I already got two from Linda McMahon in the last few weeks. Her ads are all over tv. She has tons of money. But Chris has a great energy (he is only a few years older then me) and has wonderful social and economic views. He also currently lives in my hometown of Cheshire. I am actually going to see if I can volunteer for the campaign. I will do anything to help beat Linda McMahon.

It was so wonderful and so gratifying that I sat down and read every word. It felt so good to have campaign material that was SO emphatically unwavering on a woman's right to choose. My husband and I couldn't wait to get that lawn sign, the first on our block!

I am not living there anymore but my parents still are. She lost her reelection bid by 2% points but I did like her a lot (2010 was a difficult year even on the state level).
She has very good views on women's rights, gay rights, the environment, economic policy, etc. She is a good liberal.

While the other Connecticut Presidential poll showed a 'close' race, it's obvious that barring something totally unforeseen, Obama is still solid here. It doesn't make sense that Obama would be in danger of losing a state that hasn't gone Republican since 1988 when he's doing well in states like Ohio, Virginia etc.

The real issue is the Senate seat. The DSCC needs to help Murphy because without this seat, we could lose the Senate Majority. That needs to be a priority. Ironically, because of the Akin situation in Missouri, McCaskill may now have an easier time getting elected than Murphy. The DSCC needs to increase his visibility and get other high-profile Dems (eg. Bill Clinton etc.) to give him a hand in the campaign trial.
