2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThere was a letter on my precint box for the elections next week. Asked me to collect sigs for HRC
To get on the ballot. Not O'Malley, Sanders and Clinton. Just Clinton.
I am a precinct chair for dem party, I assumed the Dem Party supported all candidates equally and impartially until we had a nominee.
I was wrong. If I knew how to post a photo of the letter I would. But I have forgotten (do it so rarely)
I did call and ask for clarification, and said I would have petitions available for all three candidates on our table. But seriously.... This top down "Hillary is our candidate" stuff BEFORE ANY VOTES HAVE BEEN CAST is totally WRONG and undemocratic.
Edit: to clarify. This letter was signed by the Exec Dir, Chair, and Vice Chair of my county Democratic Party. On official lettehead. Included in box with supplies for my poling place.

(14,195 posts)I feel it is important to be fair. The dem table at a polling place should collect signatures for all our candidates....

(45,851 posts)Bernie will upset the gravy train in major and unforeseeable ways, that scares the crap out of people who have power in the current milieu.

(22,271 posts)DWS and the entire Democratic Party is front-loaded for her and she knows it. Our local Dem Party office just about a month or so ago got a few Bernie bumper stickers and a couple of activists offered up their own signs for Bernie. But when you call the party office it's all about Hillary. Multiply that by thousands of times over throughout the country and you know why Hillary has that stupid ass Cheshire cat grin.

(22,271 posts)and the hatred for Hillary out there cannot be understated. And these are current and former Democrats and Decline to States, iow, that's NOT the Republicans. The Republicans will get out in record numbers to vote against her in the General. She's seriously damaged goods.

(23,730 posts)elected candidate already to firing even Clinton loyalists who wanted more debates to the endless, endless baiting used to mask up a hideous record on race and LGBT to the whole "contradicting herself by the hour so as to rack up the most 'audiences' and endorsements" to the fingerwagging that if the Dems lose it's ALL YOUR FAULT--all these things the party's peak thinks will win it the primary and general are just turning everyone off of politics as usual

(146,288 posts)Someone from the public? That information would help clarify your post.
I'm also a precinct chair in Minnesota. We don't actually do anything about collecting signatures to get anyone on the ballot. That's up to individual candidates. I help voters register, but if they want to help an individual candidate, I just refer them to that candidate's website or other contact point.

(14,195 posts)all three candidates petitions on the table for signatures, not just Hillarys.
It is only fair.
Mostly I want to get the word out that there appears to be official party bias for Hillary even at county level.

Good for you. Now I will have to watch what goes on here.
