A Key to Clinton's Success (and Potential Downfall) -- 1990's Nostalgia

Ah those glorious 1990's.

Reading the latest Third Way screed and listening to Clinton and the whole aura of the Centrist Steamroller, it all sounds eerily familiar. Like we're trying to tun the clock back. The same memes. Deja Vu all over, with a few variations.

The Clintons are such a wonderful couple. So shiny and happy and smart. Of course, they got on the nerves of Republicans, but that was a good thing. The GOP will be irrelevant soon.

The economy was booming under Alan Greenspan and Bill Clinton. We were never going to have another recession in the New Economy.

NAFTA, MFN with China and Free Trade would make the US a powerhouse. Sure, we were starting to hemorrhage jobs to overseas sweatshops. But don't worry. Those nasty old factory jobs were being replaced by glorious High Tech jobs. And anyone could be an Entrepreneur and become the next Steve Jobs. We just need Better Education. And if you weren't a Science Genius or Brilliant at Business, there were new Service Jobs in call centers cropping up all over.

Real Estate was booming. You too could be a millionaire by flipping houses, buying old mills and turning them over fast. Prices were never going to go down never again. Never mind that many people couldn't afford housing.

No one could understand these new financial vehicles that the rapidly growing Big Banks and Investment Houses were engaging in. But hey, those guys are smarter than the rest of us.

Newt and Bill tamed the budget. "The Era of Big Government is Over." We don't need no stinking liberals.

Ahhhhhh. The glorious 90's.

Is the Democratic Party looking for the Sequel with Clinton 2? IF so, well we're sunk, because the 90's set the stage for the subsequent economic morass.

Nothing would suppress the under 30 vote more than a Clinton/Bush contest.

6. Yes, the same New Team ran the football down the field, fumbled September 2008, got up and

kept running through January 2009, where the New Team were reappointed to continue running the New Game.

Now the Clinton's are asking Americans to keep this ball running and in play by the New Team members that started the New Game back in the 1990s.

Have Americans learned anything or do we have sh*t for brains? The Old Clinton New Team, must be hoping We the People are siting-out, on the Old Sidelines.

Thankfully, young people are smart enough to work through a social media democracy so they may have a future of opportunity and success.

Clinton is promoting the same Old New Plan, that is already in place now:

Yes! The time warp lives!

Or, if you prefer the more traditional version

Featuring Henry Kissinger as Dr. Frank-n-furter! And Rahm Emanuel as Riff Raff.

"The economy was booming under Alan Greenspan and Bill Clinton. We were never going to have another recession in the New Economy."

Clinton and Greenspan lucked out with the Internet. If it hadn't been for the Internet crowd, the country would have realized a recession a lot earlier. When I read how Clinton was so economically successful, I cringe. He had absolutely nothing to do with it. Hell, Al Gore had more to do with it than Clinton.

Though I had been active in politics before, the election of '92 was the turning point for me. I was a hardcore Clinton supporter, I was all-in with that campaign -- a True Believer. I was even one of the first members of Move-On when it was started during the impeachment proceedings.

As I was reading your piece I could exactly visualize in my head the interviews, press conferences, policy speeches, votes regarding those very issues I witnessed during that time. Dead on list. But I now also see the long-term damage that was done from those times.

If short-term economic gain is your sole metric for success then, yes, the 90s were "good".

As I have matured and become more politically sophisticated, I look back in horror at some of what was "accomplished" during that time.

And I am NOT looking forward to more of the same.

16. honestly they haven't updated their economics since the Chicagoids' 1973 "bolt from the blue"

that was quickly enacted by Pinochet and the Powell Memo types

no wonder their campaign is pure 1992, dancing the nae nae

maybe they'll spike their hair down over the forehead to make the picture complete?
