2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHey Bernie, I've got your VP right here.
Wesley Clark. Weak on defense, hell no with a General holding down the VP.

(10,007 posts)He called for a revival of internment camps to help combat Muslim extremism, saying, If these people are radicalized and they dont support the United States and they are disloyal to the United States as a matter of principle, fine. Its their right and its our right and obligation to segregate them from the normal community for the duration of the conflict.

(32,669 posts)The comments were shockingly out of character for Clark, who after serving as supreme allied commander of NATO made a name for himself in progressive political circles. In 2004, his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination was highly critical of the Bush administrations excessive response to the 9/11 terror attacks. Since then, he has been a critic of policies that violate the Geneva Convention, saying in 2006 that policies such as torture violate the very values that [we] espouse.

(18,421 posts)Incidentally I would never want him as VP. He is a war hawk.
From your link...
When Hillary Clinton took over as Secretary of State, Americas image around the globe was badly damaged. Since then, weve ended the war in Iraq. Were winding down in Afghanistan. We decimated Al-Qaedas leadership, and helped democracy grow in the Middle East," Clark writes.

(130,862 posts)they've been 'friends,' may have begun during Clintons' time in Arkansas.
Even so, he would not use that to avoid public service, imo, but the issue wouldn't arise until AFTER primaries.

(32,669 posts)so I don't see that as a problem.

(130,862 posts)I must say I've waited for YEARS for HRC's friendship with Wes to bear fruit, and haven't seen it, among other issues her vote FOR Iraq war, which Wes opposed.

(1,238 posts)I know many people would hate that choice, but I think he would cover Bernie's weaknesses and round out a ticket.
Webb's got a solid foreign policy record, is populist on economic issues and a bit moderate on the social issues.
I can see people feeling uncomfortable with a "socialist" who is calling for 'revolution,' and I think having someone like Webb who is one of those old school by the book type of dudes, strong but not reckless on defense, and a veteran would help counteract that.

(14,449 posts)I am not against older people but I am not sure that ticket would be popular.
