2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA blatant "fuck you" campaign
America, the Repigs have presented for your perusal two elitist candidates who smile smoothly in your face while stabbing you in your chest. To prime the pump for these two, they have been using their 2010 gains to alter your voting rights. They have absolutely no problem stating that everyone should not be able to vote because they are not smart enough or wealthy enough to make an intelligent choice. Why should they be subjected to the opinions of the mentally challenged lowlifes? They have plans for the future that do not include you, your children, your grandchildren or theirs either. Oh, I'm sorry; yes, they have a plan for you all. You can breed. Yes, breed soldiers for the military that will protect their wealthiness as they jet ski through life; maids, cooks, chauffeurs, valets, gardeners and stable boys who will work for pennies maintaining their lavish lifestyles.
When they say they want to take the country back, they don't mean take it back from someone, they mean take it back in time to a point where only the wealthy had a voice. Ladies, forget about it. If you think they will give you a waiver because you're a white woman, I hate giving you this wake up call, but pick up your oar because you're in the boat with the commoners. You too will give them the sons and an occasional daughter to placate their delicate egos. If you stay in your place they might see that you're taken care of medically. If not, to the boat with you.
Borders will be closed. Did I mention they are bone weary of trying to decipher all of these foreign languages and accents? Any time you are too elite for the British . . . well, what the fuck can I say? They will isolate America from the rest of the world. My way or the highway is not a good diplomatic tool.
To my religious friends, God ain't got nothing to do with this. They don't care about your denomination. They care about POWER and WEALTH. They have been dragging out the abortion issue every time they want to rile up the religious. When they tire of that they move on to same sex issues. When they are feeling frisky they blow the prejudicial whistle. They love that one because they never know who the lowlife's will attack. However, they know it won't be one of them. None of these issues matter to them. Those are merely tools they use to coral their voters . . . for now.
Final goal . . . the dismantling of America. Fuck "We the people" and the horse they rode in on, unless it can compete in dressage. Okay, let's make this real simple. They want to abolish every department that does anything for the people. That road you road in on . . . hope you have some asphalt in the trunk of your car to fill that pothole because they don't think the government should be responsible for it. Those schools you send your children to, forget about them. They only teach them to be rebellious anyway. Keep in mind that one of the tenants of slavery was to not educate them. Knowledge is a bitch for those who want to dictate. The food you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe; not their concern. Of course they want you armed. Whenever they want to thin the crowd they will point the armed in the direction they want eliminated. Who needs a damned police department when you have idiots who will kill anything you tell them to? Fire? It'll eventually burn out. The staff will put out their fires. Have you noticed the smug smile they have when they use the phrase, "small business"? They don't give a flying fuck about anything SMALL. They use it because the little people's hearts palpitate when they use it. It does the same thing when we hear about babies and puppies.
America, unless you have learned how to live on rich folks' car, plane and boat fumes you had better wake up. This feels more and more like they know the fix is in. Keep your eyes on those voting machines. I personally think the voter registration issue is a smokescreen to take our eyes off of the machines and the counting of votes. But, hey, who am I?

(312 posts)We had hard liberal candidates in America. Like a tea-party equivalent.
That way, people in office could say to Republicans, "I wish I could help you out, but those guys won't let me."

(634 posts)If We win this election, the Dems have to deliver the goods.
If not, it will be evident that Our system no longer works.
If we win and still have to accept anti-99% legislation, then we will know that Big Money is more powerful than We-The-People...

It's amazing and ironic.
And it looks like the dems, for once, are willing to take advantage of the easy case that will get the message across.

Keep breaking it down, madashelltoo.
We SHOULD be mad as hell that this country is regressing to serfdom.
That's not what's stated in the brochure. America must live up to its advertising.

(1,782 posts)Ultimately all power is people power. When, for example, police brutalize protestors, those are people acting, made powerful by weapons that are, in turn, made by people. What makes a rich person rich? The system that protects the rich person's wealth. And that system is wholly made by people.
We stick with it. We do the things that support the system. We are willing to be the driver who drives the wealthy person around, the auto maker that puts bullet-proof windows into expensive cars, the inventor who invents bullet-proof glass, the laborer who makes and repairs the roads that bring people to jobs that make the wealthy wealthier, the teacher who makes sure the kids know enough to keep the system going but not enough to question it; we are willing to be just about anyone that gets paid because that's what we believe we need to do for ourselves and for our families. We may start out full of love and purpose and end up as the doctor who is willing to limit him/herself to 8 minutes per patient because that's what the insurance companies squeeze us into, even if we know we can't do right by our patients that way.
It is the way we direct our energy that sustains the system. We do it because we get money for it, and we perceive money as what we need for our lives. Money is the medium through which we put our energy to turn it into food and flat-screen TVs; money is the medium through which we turn our energy over to the system and give up responsibility for how it is used.
It seems so simple yet so impossible: We need to take back the use of our own energy. How?
I don't know the answer. Perhaps the place to start is by doing as much as we can for ourselves. Like starting a vegetable garden so that you are not completely dependent on your local grocery store -- and you can grow food that you *know* contains no pesticides or GMOs. But a sewing machine and make your own clothes? (Of course you still have to buy fabric.) Use local businesses, people you know, whenever you can. Just thoughts. In the end I feel I don't know the answer. But at the same time I feel the answer is close by; we just have to *see* it: a better way to live so that we no longer sustain a system that ultimately will ruin our lives.

(1,698 posts)That is how I lived with my grandparents. Those people knew how to "survive". There is nothing wrong with being self sufficient. It should be encouraged. Still, the system can be a better vehicle to make sure everyone has what they need. I am my brother's keeper whether I like it or not.

The 1% are a cancer, increasingly diverting blood and nutrients to their tumorous selves. Ultimately they will kill the host system through a combination of starvation and poisoning.
Removing yourself as much as possible from the system is the only way to survive the death of the system, by being prepared to make the last jump to freedom from the system when it collapses. Start now building a small, local community system ready to go.
Possibly the 1% will back off before the host system dies. What will push them back? How do we cut off *their* blood supply to shrink them?
They still depend on us too, to operate their system. Again, participating as little as possible helps.
Buy only what you must
Buy local when possible
Bank Credit Union when possible.
When you must buy from the big corps, if at all possible buy on major sale, at a loss to them if possible. Spend a penny to cost them 2.
If it will cost them more to process an online buy, donate a penny to their campaigns. Spend a penny to cost them 2.
