(18,421 posts)Solving our dependence on foreign oil would solve a lot of our international issues. Creating green jobs would fix a lot of domestic issues.
Granted it's not the biggest thing.
He was clearly fourth in line and had to say something different... like when Hillary decided to name six people/groups that hate her after two other candidates took the good ones.

(14,881 posts)Most people don't realise that the problems in Syria started with serious drought and food shortages brought about by climate change.
There will be continued civil uprisings and mass migrations as more regions become unliveable.
Bernie was right when he answered Climate Change.

(14,881 posts)"Says the Pentagon report released Wednesday, Global climate change will have wide-ranging implications for U.S. national security interests over the foreseeable future because it will aggravate existing problems such as poverty, social tensions, environmental degradation, ineffectual leadership, and weak political institutions that threaten domestic stability in a number of countries.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jul/29/climate-change-urgent-security-threat-pentagon/
"The Pentagon on Monday released a report asserting decisively that climate change poses an immediate threat to national security, with increased risks from terrorism, infectious disease, global poverty and food shortages. It also predicted rising demand for military disaster responses as extreme weather creates more global humanitarian crises."

"In this video the Pentagon's focus on climate change is described as a significant factor as the military examines potential risks, strategic responses, and impacts of climate change on future military and humanitarian missions. In 2010, for the first time, the Pentagon focused on climate change as a significant factor in its Quadrennial Defense Review of potential risks and strategic responses. Rear Admiral David Titley, Oceanographer of the Navy, explains why the US military sees clear evidence of climate change and how those changes will affect future military and humanitarian missions."

(14,177 posts)But, at the debate party the one that made everyone cringe which I paraphrase, was from Hillary. "I am a woman that would be a big change." I agree that was terrible. I think we all know she is a woman. I think none of us actually care more about that than the issues though.
The best. "Wall Street is not regulated by Congress, Congress is regulated by Wall Street." Words to that effect in any case. (Sanders) Who I think won the debate by every objective measure possible.

(62,444 posts)The question about "how would you be different from Barack Obama?"
And she said something to the effect of "Isn't it obvious?"
During that pause, I was thinking "gosh, what obvious strong contrast am I not aware of?"
I drew a complete blank.
And then she ends the pause by formally announcing, apparently for the first time in public, that she's a woman.
Yeah, she's white, too, but I don't think those are the kinds of "differences" the question was driving out.
They all hit a couple of clunkers, but that one was a real gear-grinder moment.
That and Webb still fighting in Vietnam. That guy needs some counseling.

(14,177 posts)He is clearly out of his element, his gourd, his league, and the Democratic party is not the right party for him. He is somewhat sane which means he can't be a Republican. He is conservative so he can't really be a Democrat. I don't think he would be suited to be in a minor party either, I think he believes in safety in numbers and he clearly is one who believes in establishment politics. I don't think he is so much a leader than a he is one that follows his conscious, but he wants that acceptance from a large number of people.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)A lot of people talk about feeling sorry for Webb.
I'm the only one here who was not only feeling sorry for Webb back in 1997, but that's when I sent him a sympathy card.
I know how to feel sorry for Webb and I've proven I can do something about it.
That was the template for every god damned thing he said.
When they got to the enemies, I paused the TiVo and said to my wife, "I'll bet Webb goes with the North Vietnamese."
Webb can be simulated in less than 200 lines of code.

(14,177 posts)I was not actually prepared for that though. It was like some bad line in an otherwise good movie. It lay there on the stage a stinking pile of something that you don't even know what it is, only that it smells bad and looks like it will get bigger if it gets fed too much energy or something. I am glad that line got so little attention. Right now I am paying it more attention than it deserves.

Question: How many times does the media dismiss applause lines from Republicans at their debates by claiming what's popular in a room full of assholes that have a history of wanting people to die who can't afford health care may not translate to the general public?

(9,314 posts)You know, Republicans and their sympathizers they say you cant have paid leave, you cant provide health care. They dont mind having big government interfere with a womans right to choose and take down Planned Parenthood, the former Secretary of State said. Theyre fine with big government when it comes to that. "
