Associated Press

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan to be his running mate, according to a Republican with knowledge of the development. The newly minted GOP ticket will appear together Saturday in Norfolk, Va., at the start of a four-state bus tour to introduce the GOP ticket to the nation.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because this person was not authorized to disclose the decision.

Likely it won't have the impact of 'fart petals', (for some reason fellow DUers found those two words used together highly amusing), but just in case I wanted to be first with merper.

Rum sounds good. (insert big sigh here). Haven't had a drink in a long time though.

Outside of Newt I can't imagine a more target rich candidate for the folks in Chicago to exploit than this clown. When they're done with him he'll be ruined politically just like Sister Sarah.

It might be the same thing with Romney/Ryan. I am sure they will do more damage to themselves than we could ever hope to do to them. We didn't make Romney's sock puppet talk about Romney's Anglo-Saxon roots making him better suited to US-UK relations. We didn't make Mitt insult Palestinians and we didn't make Mitt shut the press out when he went to Poland. That was all his doing. We didn't make Ryan throw seniors under the bus, he did that himself. So, really mostly all we have to do is point out the stuff Romney/Ryan are doing and that is going to be about enough.

It's not the logical choice. It's a "hail Mary" move designed for short-term gain. But in the long run it will be disastrous just like the Palin pick was for McCain.

Portman was the only pick that might have done him any good, MAYBE helping him in Ohio.

Ryan is definitely a pick to codify the "base" as Palin was.

He won't be Palin bad, but the republicans being the superficial types they are don't see Ryan for the intellectual lightweight he is. They just know he has the pretty flip haircut and can spew their nonsense about tax cuts and undefined cuts in spending in 30 second clips.

Put him in the big fish bowl, after they and the liberal media get a few weeks of circle jerking because of how much of a STAR he is, and he will be exposed.

just as much of a dumb choice. Remember, Palin made even more of a "splash" in 2008 than Ryan will: right-winger, first female GOP VP nominee, good-looking (in their eyes), etc. We all know how that turned out. Luckily we know how this story plays out.
