Related: About this forumTrump On The RNC: "We'll See What Happens"
NY Daily News:Said Trump: Well, I know they want me to [participate] and Ill see what happens. Im getting something in Sarasota, Florida the night before. Now, you have to understand this was Im sure in some eyes well deserved than in others but they are giving me the Statesman of the Year award on the evening before the convention, and I am very honored by that. Thats the Sarasota Republican Party.
Notwithstanding Mittens having sucked up to Trump for an endorsement, would he really be stupid enough to give him a primetime speaking slot, with all the risks that would entail?
I suspect the answer will be "no thanks". after which Donald will announce that Romney wanted him to attend, but he's just too busy with other important activities.

(44,575 posts)3. Trump is receiving his award from the Republican Party of Sarasota County
From Talking Points Memo:
Ahead of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, in August, the Republican Party of Sarasota County is giving Donald Trump its Statesman of the Year award...
Hes a sage, skillful and respected leader who is doing all he can to take our country back, Sarasota GOP Chair Joe Gruters told TPM...
Trumps spokesman, Michael Cohen, told NBC that Trump is honored to receive the award. It would seem obvious that Donald Trump will play a role in the Tampa convention, as his massive popularity, reflected in this recent award, shows what an asset he would be in making the convention into an even greater success."

Sarasota is sixty miles from the national GOP convention in Tampa. So there's no reason to believe that the two events are related -- unless, of course, it's some kind of "consolation prize" for not being invited to Tampa Bay.
Gruters has given the statesman award to former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (when he was a Republican) and former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour.
Nah, no reason to believe that at all...

That Donald Trump?
I have to say, the GOP has really lowered the bar for choosing who qualifies as a statesman. I guess all you need, besides a bad combover and a lot of money, is the willingness to go full birther.
