English language media have to translate them first, and can't play them to demonstrate if they're vicious or not very easily. If the ads just calmly show how Romney is two faced and so on, then they're not news. Ads are news if they accuse candidates of being the devil, the worst person in the world, and so on - if they come from their own party, anyway. A union ad saying a rich Republican is two faced is just not news, these days - "dog bites man" stuff.
