he ended going up to prison for ahem...among other cutesies, selling favors to the well connected. He went so far as to have a menu...nope, not kidding. He was given a couple decades, served half.

Oh and if memory serves, he either was the only ace of the Vietnam war (his fighter us at the Air and Space here in San Diego still) or one of the few aces.

Iirc, the way he got busted was selling his house to a contractor for a grossly overinflated amount. The contractor didn't even pretend to want the house and turned around to list it for a huge loss.

I remember one of Cunningham's wants from his crooked contractors was fancy antique french furniture and a fancy french antique chamber pot.

I remember he once called liberals wimps and cowards so rep. Jim Moran (a former boxer) offered to take him outside and box his ears back for him. Cunningham declined.

I remember he cried like a baby when he went to prison.

Yeah, quid pro quo is...and well...the saga ended with the owners selling, selling again to a developer, and recently he sold it to the tribune.
