There will be more jobs still as preventive care gets prioritized.

They'll be looking for efficiencies, as always, but they'll have a broader customer base--so they won't be firing, they will be hiring.

And point to some ridiculous data that's so insignificant it means little on the whole - but to them, it will be HUGGGHHH!

Yeah, there'll be a lot of jobs created, jobs that didn't exist.

On the other hand, the money's going to come from somewhere, and that money is currently going towards products and services that require jobs.

Perhaps it'll create jobs locally and just reduce imports, cutting overseas jobs. Perhaps it'll create jobs locally, put price pressure on domestically-created products and that'll lead to outsourcing and domestic job cuts. Perhaps something else will happen.

"Job creation", like any other use of money, *has* to look at opportunity costs as well as the effects it has on the status quo. I can pool 50% of my income with my neighbor's and hire a person, creating a job. Woo-hoo! We could all do that and reduce unemployment to zero by Wednesday of this week. But to do so would have really severe consequences elsewhere. We're smart enough to understand this kind of an effect at a personal level, but at a systemic level it all just seems like magic.

I don't understand much. But I understand enough to read Krugman or Greenspan or any other economist and how each outlines all the important factors and be able to name things that they overlooked as trivial or insignificant. And to know that often they're not. In their scholarly writings they state assumptions and have caveats: "If this is true, then...." In their popular writings they speak with the voice of God, one that is wrong in important ways fairly often.

11. Some of the older RNs I worked with that were around

after Medicare/Medicaid was passed told of how the panic button had been pushed that their jobs would be endangered because of the commie takeover of medicine. Back then, RNs barely got paid more than LVNs and nurses' aides and they had no specialized services like respiratory techs, phlebotomists, or in many cases, even physical therapists, to help them with the patients. It was all their responsibility. After Medicare/Medicaid was passed, the large surge in new users of the program meant that the services of healthcare workers was in greater demand than ever. Those were the days when my older RN sister said she was getting offers for luxury vacations and huge bonuses by nurse recruiters. Well, the baby boomers are retiring and getting up in age now, so healthcare careers will be a good choice for anyone over the next couple of decades and 20 million more insured under ACA surely means more intake clerks, nurses, insurance bean counters, NAs, pharmacists, pharmacy techs, etc., will be needed in good numbers as well. Between us aging baby boomers and the new ACA, you can't go wrong with jobs in healthcare, elder care and mortuary services.

instability is the problem. Obama just scares the hell out of a lot of people and the economy suffers for it. I know a lot of people left and right who are just sitting on money because the dont know whats coming. Most of them (even Democrats) are voting for Romney because they believe he is less radical and more market friendly.

Which person/party was it that thought that it would be a grand idea to cause massive amounts of "instability" by holding the debt ceiling hostage last year and ended up causing a credit downgrade on our debt (which is going to us more money in the long term)? It's not President Obama's fault if some conservatives and their minions are "afraid" of President Obama. It's impossible to take their overreactions seriously because he hasn't actually said or done anything to earn it.
