2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA lot of Bernie supporters are sore and bitter about what happened in Seattle
but you gotta remember that he's running for President.
Running for President is hard and not everyone is going to fall in love with your candidate.
Obama was smeared as a Kenyan-born Marxist Muslim who pals around with terrorists. He toughed it out.
The media establishment along with pretty much the entire Republican Party is going after Hillary at the moment. She was attacked in the most recent GOP debate countless times. I don't think Bernie's name even came up.
A couple of protesters disrupting an event? That's childs play.
Bernie has had it easy so far.

The other's acquaintance talks about throwing Bernie a "sheepdog's bone" to keep him distracted until it's too late.
I guess it was too early to gloat.

(14,255 posts)those who support other candidates called anti-Hillary or Hillary haters? Do you honestly think she should be above the fray? That she Must Not Be Criticized? That no one could possibly not support Hillary unless they hated her?
For me, it is not so much the interruption, but the gleeful piling on that Bernie was finished. From people who consider any criticism of Hillary to be Hate and Bashing.

If the media were really going after Clinton, the Swiss bank deal and other dealings would be common knowledge.

Keep this linke of attack on Bernie active in the discussion list.

does that sound at all familiar? It was shouted at Obama during the State of the Union but no he never had a speech taken over, not at all.

They had the stage for over 20 minutes...

(704 posts)He looks like he just got done eating something that disagreed with him. He seems personally offended that this "socialist" should dare challenge Clinton in the Democratic primary. He believes Bernie has no chance, is being built up by people and that it is heresy to even suggest that he should be in the race with Clinton.
Why that guy--whose rating suck year in and year out--remains the face of political coverage for that network, is beyond me and a good reason why the network struggles.
He is clear establishment politics. Don't dare try to change anything. Give him a centrist anytime.

(114,904 posts)most of his paternal family to the holocaust, bow down, grovel before you and publicly apologize for unspecified crimes against poc, I is vile sick shit. Period. Calling him a white supremacist is beyond the pale. Screaming, shoving and declaring that white liberals and progressives are far more racist than white cons, is delusional, but hey what can you expect from someone who is a Palin fan.

(2,983 posts)I've seen people saying that he has some WS's supporting him, but nothing where someone calls him a white supremacist. Still though, care to link to what you've seen?

2 days ago - The Senator did not get to address the crowd after protesters ... but you did it for me, accusing the audience of white supremacist liberalism. ... White progressive Seattle and Bernie Sanders cannot call ... The exchanges between the white liberals and Black Lives Matter have gotten ugly on both sides.

(2,983 posts)The 'link' doesn't even work, and the bits of article you gave me outright says the comments were to the AUDIENCE and NOT Sanders himself.

(17,196 posts)think it's ok to say that to people that support Sanders?
Lancero
(2,983 posts)Though I'd already posted this a couple above.
Few more with differing terms.
As I've said - Plenty of results about people saying that some of his supporters are supremacists - I'm not denying this, this was said - but nothing where someone calling Sanders a Supremacist.
Everyone here says that BLM called him a White Supremacist. But everything I've found shows that the 'White Supremacist' label was applied to his supporters, not him.
Seriously, I've asked a half dozen times already - Where's the proof? You've made these claims, many have made these claims, but everything I've found seems to point to people misatributing the statement that BLM made.

They regularly "explain" that Jews controlled the slave trade, and that Jewish progressives are out to do all manner of evil.

They won't mention Bernie for the same reason some people don't want Debates:
They don't want voters to hear his POLIICIES.

(19,326 posts)Unless BLM is weirdly working with the GOP, they are fellow-Democrats.
His "fellow democrats" here on DU called him a "F'ing POSUCS" that got hundreds of rev's by those who also claim to be democrats. I guess that was all OK, right? Lets also no forget the one about him being a "trojan horse" candidate, that was OK to I guess.

(10,751 posts)The attacks on Barack Obama calling him names were from his known, longstanding political opponents -- Republicans.
The attacks on Hillary Clinton were and are from her known, longstanding political opponents -- Republicans.
The attacks on Bernie Sanders are coming out of left field by a movement called Black Lives Matter that are certainly not Republicans, nor would one have supposed them to be Sanders' political opponents. One might have expected them to support the candidate with the longest and most consistent record on civil rights and racial equality, or at least to have been as angry at the other candidates as they are at him. Instead, they have singled him out for attack.
After the Netroots Nation action, BLM stated they would be going after ALL of the candidates. But that is not what happened, is it? Instead, Sanders and only Sanders is being attacked, right on his strongest point, in an election where any Democratic candidate needs to carry the black vote. Smells like a Swiftboating to me.

She now comes off as a Conservative, an inept feminist, or a misguided BLM supporter. (Or all of the above)
Her points about Sanders do not hold water, which gives credence to wanting to influence the Hillary campaign.
Clinton better step up and finally denounce this pair's actions. She's been pretty quiet about it.

since you don't like candidates being insulted, i imagine you were one of the first people to come out in defense of bernie when the disruptors called him a white supremacist and told him to bow down. i hope so.

(26,060 posts)Not ever, not even once. My comment history is there for you to investigate, if you like. I have no beef with Bernie. It's many of his supporters here on DU that are the absolute worst thing about him. Frankly, I take comfort in that DU does not represent Democrats in any way, shape or form.

(46,179 posts)Not that I'd expect you to acknowledge that. It would be out of character.
There's a lot of sore and bitter to go around in the U.S. right now, from a lot of people and a lot of groups.
As far as primary politics goes? Bernie isn't the candidate that comes to mind, and I think he's handled protesters just fine.
Is that what GDP is about, for you? To talk about other candidates' supporters?
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)Hillary has also listened to BLM. I have a feeling this will continue to occur to Bernie until he listens to their issues. Bernie sure is not the first candidate to be heckled by protesters, etc and even Bernie had a record of protesting.
Vinca
(50,170 posts)He's been listening to their issues for more than 50 years and been arrested more than once over them. Maybe the current protesters should do a little research on their targets. Or maybe they did since Bernie doesn't have Secret Service protection like that other candidate.
