They haven't realized that political change takes a lifetime. It's not about quick symbolic moments. Bernie represents the best of that as seen by his commitment.

It is as if they are being paid to disrupt Bernie.

Color me surprised to think outside forces would do such a thing.

were accused of being funded by the Chinese.

People who fought Jim Crow were accused of being funded by communists.

Unless one has proof, I consider it a similar type of smear against precisely the people that we as progressives should be supporting.

I am not buying that they are not sincere in their protest.

I just know a lot of Seattle protesters and agitation works.

I do think there are people who are loving it and that they really don't care about Black Lives in general but I do believe that BLM is a grassroots organization that is pissed about Black people dying. They don't care who gets elected...it isn't about the election.

What we do question is who benefits from attacking Bernie.

The Hillary campaign benefits.

BLM group does not benefit, in fact, they look misguided. They should be protesting the current power structure headed by Obama. Have they ever protested Obama? Will they ever?

Oh, crap, I guess I am questioning the sincerity.

One must take Bernie out of the equation.

One of the prostesters said in the ten minute video of her explaining who she was and how she came to this point in her protesting, that Black people are being kidnapped by the police. It is so profoundly true.

That she has other activists that try different methods and all run into road blocks.

That she isn't ready to wait anymore for whites to give Black people their liberation.

How long would any of us wait?

15. Bernie presents a change
Sun Aug 9, 2015, 01:34 PM
Aug 2015

Take for instance the Obama administration allowing the bankers, and the cop who shot Michael Brown, to walk free.

Bernie's administration would handle both events differently.

Another matter.... the wars on the brown people of the Middle East. Again, Bernie would handle the matter differently.

Hillary presents just more of the same. Except now she canz tweet!

Bernie is the best overall hope for real change and that's why he has my support.

But not everyone does.

Not everyone believes that this system can make the change now. They aren't going to wait any longer. They want to see it in their lifetime, and this week would be best.

When I drive behind someone going 55 in a 60 miles zone, I get pissy. When I pass them and see they are PoC, I lose my anger. They are just trying to stay alive. I then think how lucky I look like a happy white woman.

To be born white and in the US.

I became a democrat when LBJ signed the civil rights act in the 60's. I still can't believe some people are so ignorant that they would be so hateful.

And now that I am an environmentalist I see even more ignorance all around.

Bernie can help to change that, I hope.

Other minorities usually can see it, but I pass in this society.

And I have a very open and happy resting face, which is a very good thing. I just look like I am a friendly, happy person even when I am not feeling those two emotions.

The environment is also my number one concern. I fear we have left it too late and I am so mad that the powers to be thought profits would be more important.

I look out on some of the more beautiful scenery on this planet and weep.

I do care how we treat each other on the way to environmental Apocalypse, however.

7. They're not being paid
Sun Aug 9, 2015, 03:53 AM
Aug 2015

although they're probably hopeful of being paid:-

NetRoots bills itself as “the largest gathering of the progressive movement” in this country. Unless you think the Democratic party IS the progressive movement, or that all “progressives” are Democrats, this is nonsense. I know, I've been to NetRoots.

What it actually is, is the largest gathering of paid and wannabe paid Democratic party activists, Democratic candidates and Democratic campaign managers, of consultants and vendors to Democratic campaigns, and folks of all kinds who are part of the far-flung partisan and ostensibly “non-partisan” machinery that gears up every even numbered year to elect Democrats to local, state and national office. Some of them want to change the Democratic party from within, some of them want to take it as it is, but they're all committed to staying inside the Democratic tent, and to keeping you there as well.

If you're a black Democratic party activist like I was for 25 years, even if like me, you never called yourself that, you go to NetRoots to connect with other Democratic party activists, and hopefully, with the people who will be handing out grassroots money, among other things, to get out the Big Black Vote in November, without which Democrats on every level have no hope of winning.

High ranking Democrats who hand out money, whether through partisan campaigns or to ostensibly nonpartisan and/or nonprofit organizations are always on the lookout for new activist blood with catchy new hooks, for activists who'll say the things they will not say in the effort to turn out the black masses for that Big Black Vote. So if you're a black activist at NetRoots you really NEED to stand out, to get noticed by the people who can give you fellowships, grants, jobs, funding of all kinds, and a career.

Since Hillary is the all but inevitable Democratic nominee, confronting two minor white male candidates, demanding they “say her name” and come up with solutions that address white supremacy, structural racism and the runaway police state is pretty much a foolproof strategy to get noticed, and as Hillary did not attend NetRoots, they got to do it without antagonizing the Clinton camp. Hillary wisely covered her own ass by releasing a tweet that unequivocally said “black lives DO matter.”

"Hillary wisely covered her own ass by releasing a tweet that unequivocally said “black lives DO matter.”"

Bwahahaha! A tweet? Hillary canz tweet? And her tweets are policy? And the black people say: Well, she tweeted and so she's ok?

Really, remarks like yours just degrade the movement.

There are some deep-pockets who are probably applauding your attempts at covering for them.

They're pissed, but their anger is misdirected. They want to blow shit up, but are clueless how to build something better. Narcissist leaders who care more about the $ and personal glory. Secret $ funding a 'grassroots' movement.

Sun Aug 9, 2015, 11:13 AM

I don't know why they did this, maybe because it's easier to disrupt than it is to create a means of channeling the broad support from Americans of all types into political action. BLM had and may still have broad support among Americans for its objective to protect black lives and freedom from discrimination aka equal treatments re social and economic justice.

It's hard to imagine that these disruptions from BLM movement are going to win them support of other politicians.

If one lesson is very clear from the civil rights movement, you can't work a political solution from outside of politics.

The point of disrupting and demanding is to get that access to the -inside-.

I'm pretty certain that the open door to the inside, now has the political class considering how they hide behind it rather than letting BLM in.

5. Seeing BLM go after Sanders is a headshaker. It's like watching that CVS in Baltimore burn
Sun Aug 9, 2015, 02:55 AM
Aug 2015

What was the point? People were rightfully pissed and angry in a way that I probably can't grasp, but how did burning a holdout store -- one of the only drugstores serving a depressed area -- help anyone? In a day, the news trucks moved on and the only lasting effect is a bunch of grandmas having to take a bus to get their refills.

Bernie's campaign is like that CVS. It was there for people -- probably imperfect, but there. We need to stand up for it.

I heard they're rebuilding that drugstore, BTW. So, there is that.
