2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie is crushing Hillary on Facebook!
Facebook (FB) has over a billion accounts.
In Social Media, FB is king.
Remember when it was "news"
that Hillary got 500,000 "likes"?
When youre running for president in a social media world, people respond all at once, too: Clintons Facebook page received just over 470,000 likes within 10 minutes of launching. At the time of this writing, the page has 499,254 likes. A Facebook spokesperson said the page launched concurrently with Clintons announcement, which means it began with zero likes.
Topping the page is a link to Clintons official campaign website and her announcement video, Clintons announcement video, which has already garnered more than 13,000 likes.
http://www.politicususa.com/2015/04/12/democrats-surge-hillary-clintons-facebook-page-500000-likes-15-minutes.html
The probability that those 500,000
were individual FB users is unlikely.
But we can't be sure.
Considering that she has hardly doubled
her "likes" since her launch seeds even more doubts.
She currently has just over a million.
Apparently, Hillary has plateaued!
She's out of steam and struggling
to stay relevant in social media.
And all the cool kids are on social media!
WHEREAS, Bernie Sanders is gaining
momentum and surging past Hillary.
Bernie Sanders has over 1.5 million FB "likes"...
and continues to climb!
https://www.facebook.com/senatorsanders
The little known senator from the sleepy state
of Vermont is surging past the his rival, Hillary,
who has universal name recognition.
Facebook is the worlds first real time and
ongoing "poll" of public consensus.
Which do you believe represent public opinion better,
a "weighted" poll of 1000 people, or 1.5 million "likes"
Hillary has plateaued, Bernie is surging ahead!

(28,749 posts)a "weighted" poll of 1000 people, or 1.5 million "likes"
Probably a weighted poll, you know, with "math and stuff".
Cosmic Kitten
(3,498 posts)Here's the difference.
A poll targets a demographic audience,
such as "likely voters", and has an
absurdly refusal rate of 90%.
The refusal rate is a measure of people
who tell pollsters bugger off.
90% say bugger off.
FB "likes" is unsolicited, voluntary participation.
Don't be mad, bro

"The unknown, unelectable, "socialist"

Nothing in reality shows that statement to be even close to true.
Back to the topic you are discussing here. Social media. Where do their two twitter accounts stand.
I expect no honest conversation as you somehow actually believe this.
"The unknown, unelectable, "socialist"
from Vermont is beating the universally
recognized frontrunner!?!"
It is simply not an accurate or believable statement.
You also didn't address the fact, that by your metric, Palin is going to run away with the election.

At some point it has to be asked. Are you a Hillary supporter? This looks so bad and the dishonesty is simply forcing people to hold stronger in their corners. Clearly a benefit for Hillary. Are you a supporter of hers doing a parody of a Sanders supporter. Not very nice.

public appeal, as evidenced on FB, the premier
social media hub.
Where are her followers?
Why doesn't the most recognized name
in this election have millions of "likes"?
FB runs the gamut of demographics
and the barrier to participation are
minimal if you have internet access.
Yet all those women, retirees, cool kids,
can't seem to give her a "like"???
She should have millions of "likes"!

(19,460 posts)There are millions of us women, retirees and cool kids who just don't do social media. Many of us think it is just a waste of valuable time. Take me for instance, I have a flower garden to attend to, commissioned bead work to get done, a dog and hubby to take care of, a grand daughter to shop with ( girl time at the Mall), a pile of books to read, me time meditation, yoga class, ballet class and then a bit of time for DU. Nope, sorry, FB is just not on our list of important things to do.

Military's 'sock puppet' software creates fake online identities to spread pro-American propaganda
The discovery that the US military is developing false online personalities known to users of social media as "sock puppets" could also encourage other governments, private companies and non-government organisations to do the same.
The Centcom contract stipulates that each fake online persona must have a convincing background, history and supporting details, and that up to 50 US-based controllers should be able to operate false identities from their workstations "without fear of being discovered by sophisticated adversaries".
Centcom spokesman Commander Bill Speaks said: "The technology supports classified blogging activities on foreign-language websites to enable Centcom to counter violent extremist and enemy propaganda outside the US."

People can like that, and skip the hard work of actually voting.
