Prominent Republicans Silent on Samuel Wurzelbacher Anti-Semitic Assertions Condemnation not Expected
Talk about saying anything to get the gun vote. Samuel Joe the Plumber Wurzelbacher said in public what many right-wing politicians have said behind closed doors for years. Will it have an impact on the 2012 elections? Will obvious outrage from the Jewish community change the outcomes of any elections? Do the republicans have any other groups left to insult?

(21,925 posts)It has to do with the Darrel Issa hearing on Fast and Furious. For months, Glenn Beck, other conservative nuts and even Fox News have been pushing the conspiracy theory that Obama wants to show through Fast and Furious that Mexican drug gangs can easily get weapons and so Obama wants to take guns away from Americans and make it nearly impossible to get them. White Americans. Next, he wants to put whites in concentration camps. Beck and Focks News have been making the same point as Joe the Plumber", that if Jews and Armenians had had access to guns and if there had been no gun control in Turkey and Nazi Germany, Jews and Armenians would have prevented their respective holocausts. So the respective armies of Norway, Poland, Belgium, Holland, France, the 350,000 man British Expeditionary force in France, and the Russian Army for much of the war could not stop the Nazis with tanks, planes, and artillery but a few armed civilians with small arms would have had no trouble.

(69 posts)The 'blame' for the Holocaust can't go to gun control or its absence.
The 'blame' for the Holocaust can go only to the nazis.
And I don't see 'joe the plumber' blaming gun control for the Holocaust.
From what I read, he said the right for all to bear arms would have made the Holocaust more difficult to enforce.
Coincidentally, the Swiss seem to agree because every male adult is required by law to keep its service weapon after compulsory military service, on the grounds that Switzerland is a democracy built on the free will of its citizen who would be best empowered to defend themselves against an aggression if everybody has a weapon.
Forgot the name, but during WWII, a japanese general was asked if it was possible to invade the USA. He answered that should an invasion of the US be possible, it would not be possible to hold it because of the weapons possession by the citizenry. Met's play politics fiction: if Red China invaded the US (theoretically possible in half a century), they couldn't hope hold on to it.
In short, when people believe they live in a democracy of free citizens, the devil they know (an occasional shooting rampage by a crackpot) is better than the evil lurking outside (an invasion of said democracy by a foreign dictatorship)
