Is D.U. -Last edited Tue Jul 21, 2015, 01:56 PM - Edit history (1)
Becoming A circular firing squad, I heard that today on T.H. and it struck a chord, I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this?

1. If I had a dollar for everytime someone said that around here
I'd be a rich, rich woman.
Some people don't understand the nature of debate. |

4. Yes. Probably due to outside money and influence like everything else has become.
People get sucked into it all. I try to take breaks every once in a while to clear my head and regain my sense of balance.

9. I remember a nasty debate filled with accusations of "idiocy" and "conspiracy". . .
focused on the nature and purpose of government actions and the willful blindness (said some) of a cadre of people on DU who refused to see the truth, coupled with charges of equally obtuse thought hurled against those who insisted their vision was the only revealed truth. Despite all the invective and nasty personal attacks, however, the U.S. began its attack on Afghanistan to avenge the events of September 11.
I hear David Byrne Talking in my Head: "Same as it ever was, same as it ever was . . ." |

10. I find discussion is often viewed in that manner....
I find that discussion is often viewed as a circular firing squad mostly by the people that simply like to be heard. Discussion involves back and forth. For some, the moment the back and forth starts, it is considered a circular firing squad. It is simply the fact they don't want to listen, just be heard. This is discussion and debate. It can often look like a circular firing squad, and a select few debate in a manner that would lead to that outcome. Some will even go down before the end. But most of us will be sitting here in a year continuing to fight for progressive principals. The exact opposite of a circular firing squad.

13. T.H is what I assume is Thom Hartmann?
I listen to Thom almost everyday. I wish he did not use this website as a guidepost for what is happening in the primary races.
Thom has a Sanders bias, and I don't hold that against him, but I have not really heard him talk about the issues that are currently being discussing here in GDP regarding the weekend happening at NRN. HE is not willing to acknowledge (so far) the issues that many people have regarding Sanders and race that is a pretty hot topic. I appreciate how Thom talks about white privilege, but I have so far been disappointed that he hasn't mentioned (and if I missed it, I would like to be corrected, I listen but also do other things during my day) what happened regarding Black lives matter and NRN. Hell, I didn;t even here him talking about Martin O'Malley and what happened. IMO, his show relies a little too much on what is posted here for show prep. once again: my opinion. Hartmann is a safe zone for Sanders supporters. Thom is unapologetic about being a Sanders supporter and it is his show and his right to do so. |

14. Thom-
Did not say that in reference to D.U. He was speaking generally about progressives , I myself just observed that it struck me re: D.U.
