Republicans for Bernie Sanders

Apparently it's a real thing:

Republicans for Bernie Sanders
June 24 at 7:05pm · Edited ·

As the administrator of this page, the most common question I receive is: Will you register as a Democrat in order to help Bernie win the nomination? It's certainly an important question for any Republican or Independent supporting Bernie to consider. And it's a somewhat difficult and personal decision for many of us. But I'll take the lead and be among the first to answer: Yes, as a matter of fact, I will! But, to be honest, I have no wish to remain a Democrat any longer than absolutely necessary. For those in my boat, the next most important question to consider is this: When should I register?

This website lists the dates for various U.S. primaries and caucuses: http://frontloading.blogspot.com/p/2016-presidential-primar

And this website lists the number of days needed to register prior to your state's primary election in order to be eligible to vote: http://www.rockthevote.com/…/voter-registration-deadlines.h…

In my case, I have about 10 months left to register as a Democrat. I'll probably do so about a week early just to be on the safe side.

Having never lived in a caucus state, I'm not quite sure of the registration/participation procedure. Perhaps it's more or less the same? Hoping that someone can fill us in..

I'll go out on a limb here and predict that this is one segment of the electorate Hillary is unlikely to tap into.

who aren't happy with the extreme right and don't like the corporate sellouts either. Bernie audited the Fed. That will earn him some brownie points with some on the right.

Thursday, July 21, 2011
The first top-to-bottom audit of the Federal Reserve uncovered eye-popping new details about how the U.S. provided a whopping $16 trillion in secret loans to bail out American and foreign banks and businesses during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. An amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders to the Wall Street reform law passed one year ago this week directed the Government Accountability Office to conduct the study. "As a result of this audit, we now know that the Federal Reserve provided more than $16 trillion in total financial assistance to some of the largest financial institutions and corporations in the United States and throughout the world," said Sanders. "This is a clear case of socialism for the rich and rugged, you're-on-your-own individualism for everyone else."

Among the investigation's key findings is that the Fed unilaterally provided trillions of dollars in financial assistance to foreign banks and corporations from South Korea to Scotland, according to the GAO report. "No agency of the United States government should be allowed to bailout a foreign bank or corporation without the direct approval of Congress and the president," Sanders said.

The non-partisan, investigative arm of Congress also determined that the Fed lacks a comprehensive system to deal with conflicts of interest, despite the serious potential for abuse. In fact, according to the report, the Fed provided conflict of interest waivers to employees and private contractors so they could keep investments in the same financial institutions and corporations that were given emergency loans.

2. This sort of story is often posted about more liberal candidates

Republicans believe that liberalism is an anathema to the American voter, so they try to support liberal candidates in order to win. Or so the theory goes; I don't know how many actually change parties to do this. And of course anytime a far right candidate is threatening the ordained front runner over on their side, they accuse us of the same trick.

It's a form of guilt by association.

This is not some phony scheme of support dreamed up by Republicans and designed to saddle the Democrats with a loser candidate. I believe the Clinton camp may try to sell that meme to an unwitting public as a means of downplaying Bernie's appeal to the GOP base, but mosey on over to the Facebook page at the link and read the posts there. I'm quite sure you will come to the same conclusion that I did; this is a genuine movement.

Here's an example of some posts from their FB page:

I'm thrilled beyond belief to see the walls between us come tumbling down. No one can stop us when we put the outdated labels aside and unite

Liberals often talk about the importance of limiting the power and influence of corporations. Conservatives often speak of the need to limit the power and influence of government. But are we really talking about different things? At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy nut, I contend that there is a loosely organized malignant international corporate state composed of a handful of ultra-rich individuals that dominates both our corporations and our government. Hillary Clinton and all of the currently running republican presidential contenders of which I'm aware have one often overlooked quality in common - they've been bought out by this international corporate state. Millions of dollars in campaign contributions do not lie. Many of these politicians talk a good talk, but at the end of the day when it comes to carrying out the responsibilities of their positions, where do their loyalties lie? This problem threatens our national sovereignty and it degrades the freedom and welfare of our citizens. Bernie Sanders is the only presidential candidate who seems to be taking an actual stand for the citizens. His campaign represents the very real possibility of transforming the government into a tool of our collective will and our spirit rather than a means for the powerful to protect their own interests. Therefore, I proudly stand with Bernie.

Although I may not agree with everything Bernie says (and I don't), I pretty much feel like he's being straight up with us. He's got integrity. How many of these other poop weasels who are running for office can we say this about - democrat or republican?

What ever happened to our focus on freedom? Sadly, it's our own damned fault that we've let our party get taken over by fascists and religious fundamentalists. Don't forget - the GOP is effectively the very force that abolished legal slavery in the U.S. This is a proud historical fact. We've been about freedom from the very beginning! But truly, what freedom do we have if we're so brutally economically oppressed? It's time to take back our heritage and reclaim the Republican Party in the name of true
🗽
Liberty.

Took three clicks. Let's see who gets the most members.

(Not comparing Bernie, whom I love, to Kodos, who doesn't exist. Just pointing out the unlikely possibility that this is a big 'thing.')

I never knew if it was serious or fake. They said great things about Obama but who knows if it was actually setup by a Republican.

I have talked to "people on the street" that I KNOW are young Republicants that seem pretty excited about Bernie Sanders without any input from me and if that helps elect a Democrat I will take it.

If Hillary gets the nod I will vote for her for what… the 4th time?
