2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAfter having watched the video of Bernie Sanders in Wisconsin
and reading about Martin O'Malley in the O'Malley group here, and seeing a lot of good posts about Hillary Clinton too, I have to say that the democratic party has three excellent candidates who can succeed President Obama.
I thank everyone here for sharing information about each candidate.

(11,833 posts)You rock. I have a friend who just got back from Valdez. She was at a theater workshop where she got to work on a one person show she wrote & will star in. It's called the Last Frontier Theater Conference. Have you heard of it? I told her I have a friend in Alaska but couldn't remember what city you're in. She said she really loved it and hopes to go back again next year.

(297,154 posts)From watching all three, they are all quite good. They are all ready to sock it to the republicans and sock it to the billionaires who have been creating this wealth inequality which must end! Dammit!

(11,833 posts)If you get a chance to watch Sanders' amazing speech in Madison yesterday please check it out. It's on another thread here or probably also in one of the threads in the Bernie Sanders group. A full crowd of 10,000 people, and from what I've read another 10,000 who wanted to get in and couldn't. And over 6,000 people watched it on a live stream. I don't know how many more have seen it by now. There's clearly something in the air, people want significant change and are willing to get involved in it.
And if you get a chance please read the Martin O'Malley group here at DU. Really great people there. O'Malley has a very solid record, grew up in Washington, D.C. area, graduated from University of Maryland Law School, was mayor of Baltimore and governor of Maryland. He's been out front on listening, working with others, getting results. Maryland has led the nation in quality of public schools for the past five years in a row. I'm very impressed with his speeches and his record.
And of course the frontrunner Hillary Clinton. She's engaged in a listening tour all around the country. She is talking of the things that liberals like us have been emphasizing for years. Raising the minimum wage, stopping police violence, black lives matter, lbgt rights.
The race is in its early stages now. All three candidates appear to be listening to the people. Wealth inequality is totally out of hand. We need really radical changes to improve our country. President Obama helped us avert disaster. We must continue along the progressive path set forth by his Administration. I think it's essential to improving our economy and making it work better for everyone.

(11,833 posts)Sanders correctly identifies republicans (and some conservative democrats) as the primary culprits in this massive money heist by the billionaires. I love the enthusiasm of the crowd. Bernie correctly says it's up to us to keep that grass roots growing. We must move the money back to a more equitable distribution. I'm confident we can do it. Keep talking with friends and neighbors. Keep educating, keep engaging, keep voting.
