Biden wades into ‘open marriage’ debate, says voters weigh character

Biden wades into ‘open marriage’ debate, says voters weigh character

"Look, this is quicksand," Biden said to KIIS-FM host Ryan Seacrest. "I think that Newt Gingrich is, as we all are, is gonna be judged by the voters in the primary in the totality of who he is, and that includes everything. I mean, people make judgments about our character. They make judgments about our positions."

Gingrich has denounced his ex-wife's claims as "false" and attacked the news media for questioning him on the subject.

Biden went on to say that personal questions were part of the political process, for better or worse.

"Look, this is not an endeavor for the faint-hearted. But look, the sincerity meter of the American public is pretty well-attuned. I think the one thing that public punishes a public official for is if he or she turns out to be different than they advertised themselves to be," Biden said.

"And by the way, we don't have to answer every question we're asked. We may get penalized for not answering. That's for the public to judge, but it's — you know, it's, it's — if you can't stand heat, you shouldn't be in kitchen."

1. Tell it like it is Joe. Your right. Newt won't win in the general election. He might win in the

primary because of the hate that the right has. What I am afraid of is when Obama wins reelection the right is going to have a civil war. They aren't going to except the verdict.

Today I saw a clip on Hardball where Sandy Rick was answering a question from a lady that said why haven't we taken Obama out of office yet because he is a muslim, socialist kenyan. What bothers me is that he didn't even correct her.

3. A very nuanced way to express the matter. It's not that you need to be a Saint, it's just that you

shouldn't be different than what you advertised yourself to be.

We knew Bill Clinton was a hard dog to keep on the porch back when he was governor. We even knew Newt was a guy who fucked around and wasn't afraid of divorce--which is a popular sport even in the sanctimonious Bible Belt.

We didn't know, though, that Newtie was an "open marriage" kind of guy. That might not play so well down that way.

4. Well said by Joe.

That it's not your personal character so much as whether you're honest about it.

5. I remember the Clinton impeachment very well.

Newt drove home the point over and over that character counted and the president needed "moral authority" to lead. He repeated those lines over and if the issue is so important to Newt we should put that discussion on the table using his own words.

He was also fond of the term "rule of law". If it was worth impeaching a president over a sex charge we should also get all the facts from the house ethics charge findings both on and off the record. If he's on the presidential ballot we should know what laws he broke.
