Hillary's Mystery: Where Clinton Stands on Issues Dividing Her Party

Mar 17, 2015 5:00 AM EDT

Even though Hillary Clinton has been at the forefront of U.S. politics for more than two decades, her views on some of the key issues dividing the Democratic Party remain a mystery.

As she prepares a run for president, Clinton isn’t talking about free-trade agreements opposed by organized labor, tougher Wall Street regulation demanded by her party’s populist wing, or the wisdom of using tax reform to address income inequality.

Taking stands on these and other flashpoints risks alienating Democratic constituencies and giving Republicans targets to attack. Avoiding them risks making her look like just another politician.

“If she were to become a candidate she could go in either direction on these core questions.”
Robert Reich

“Less is known about Hillary Clinton’s positions on domestic issues than any other leading candidate since Dwight Eisenhower,” said H.W. Brands, a history professor at the University of Texas and author of six presidential biographies.

The elusiveness of her views troubles some Democratic leaders. “Does it bother me that, from the lead candidate and presumptive nominee, there is not a clarity?” said Representative Raul Grijalva of Arizona, a co-chairman of the House Progressive Caucus. “Of course it does.”

make her look like just another politician, it makes her look like a politician who doesn't have the spine to take a stance on issues that are important to progressives and liberals. It does not inspire my trust or give me any confidence in her.

2. The election is a year & a half away. I can be patient and wait for her to lay it all out there.

The way she is treated by the Press & masses I expect her to play those cards close, and I have no doubt she will offer up her policy plans. From that point voters can decide what they like.

7. She has taken postions on issues that Americans really care about! For instance,

She has definitively told the American people that the Bible is the piece of literature she has found most inspirational, AND she has gone into the wonky policy reeds by elucidating exactly which verses of the Bible are MOST inspirational.

What more do you want? Well, I think her campaign will soon definitively state their campaign position on whether she is just "inevitable" this time or else she is "super-inevitable"

Not taking controversial stands- HAH!
