(Quinnipiac) Poll: Romney now leads Obama in Florida

Poll: Romney now leads Obama in Florida

By Holly Bailey
May 23, 2012

Mitt Romney has now taken a 6-point lead over President Obama in the battleground state of Florida.

A new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday found Romney now leading Obama 47 percent to 41 percent among likely Florida voters. That's a shift from earlier this month when a Quinnipiac poll found the Romney and Obama statistically tied in the state. In March, Obama led Romney 49 percent to 42 percent in Florida.

If Romney were to add Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to the ticket, the presumptive Republican nominee would expand his lead in in the state only slightly, according to Quinnipiac. Forty-nine percent of Florida voters say they'd pack a Romney/Rubio ticket versus 41 percent who say they'd vote for Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. (The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 2.4 percent.)

1. well, that is a bit disappointing

but not fatal. That said I can't take every good poll for Obama as the gospel and discount every poll that shows Romney doing well. I think Florida is a real ? mark this year, and assume Romney will get a boost from having the convention there, too. Florida was pretty hard hit by the recession and still has high unemployment. I think Obama can win it but it will be difficult.

Most snowbirds head for FL by October so they will be voting in FL.

Plus VP candidates don't help the Presidential Candidate Quinnipiac is out of NJ and there horrible in the NJ Governors elections I remember them having Florio leading Whitman a day before the Governor Election and Whitman won handily so unless PPP has the President down by 6 points a day before Election 2012 I will get concern BUT now in May PLEASE!!! most voters aren't even thinking about the election now.

8. Nate Silver disagrees with Allan Lichtman's 13 keys to the White House also

And Allan has already predicted Obama will win the popular vote but Nate is going strictly by polling my bet is on Lichtman because his mythology doesn't use stupid polling its on the performance of the incumbent party in office not the challenging party he has won all his predictions on Presidential elections including Gore vs. Bush Gore won the popular vote by 500,000 more votes than Bush

10. I know. That's the saddest part. I live in a very BLUE state which subsidizes

folk in the RED state who continue to vote against their own best interests. It's so frustrating. If they really hate government, then stop making Blue states pay for Red state problems!!

Note: My governor, Martin O'Malley is planning to raise a series of state taxes in order to keep critical programs afloat. Now, I understand why he must make these tough decisions and that people won't like it; but I also understand that the greater good is being served, even if I as someone who does well have to pay a bit more in taxes.

5. I actually did find something wrong with this survey--more GOP than Dems interviewed
Wed May 23, 2012, 10:05 AM
May 2012

640 Republicans
493 Democrats
507 Indies

so they interviewed more GOP and Indies than Dems--that is out of whack!

Also only 116 blacks & 141 hispanics interviewed compared to 1387 whites.

I doubt that there are more Republicans in FL than Dems.

11. The Corporate Media, aided by these biased polls, need to keep this race very close.

The polls will be all over the place. Whether Obama is up or down, I won't start to worry about it until around September or October. If it looks like this in October, I'll be a nervous wreck!
