Robert Gates, former Sec of Defense, new book trashes Obama, Biden, and Hillary Clinton. Who knew?
His Republican Party bona fides are shining through. I guess that's what happens when you try to be bipartisian in your Cabinet choices.
So is Mr. Gates planning for a presidential run in 2016, or is it that he just wants to sell books. He's guaranteed a best seller since the rightwingnuts will eat this up.

1. He doesn't trash Hillary. I think he trashes Biden, most of all, because Biden
has been influential in Obama's foreign policy decisions, and the Condi Rice/Stephen Hadley Neocon outfit Gates now works for would want history to judge the Obama/Biden foreign policy as a mistake. Gates, Panetta, and Hillary Clinton will support each other as Hillary runs. It was them against Obama/Biden, apparently.

3. According to E.J. Dionne and David Corn
on Tweety last night he didn't trash Obama either. Apparently the media has taken stuff out of context again. What a shock.

4. I don't think what he said about Obama was all that damning, but of course the
Repubs are running around shrieking about Obama not believing in the mission, blah blah. Of course, Gates and Obama never had any conversation about what Obama believes about the strategy in Afghanistan, so Gates is just mind-reading. He pretty much trashed Biden, and that serves a purpose that I think will become clear later. Gates is the ultimate Washington insider--his little recollections aren't random musings. He's shown himself to be a self-serving backstabber.

5. I completely agree with your last statement.
Gates should not have been retained and this book was completely predictable 5 years ago.

6. I saw an O'Donnell rerun on that.
and in parts Gates actually contradicts himself and neither of them thought it was trashing Obama or any of the sort.
Media got to have blood and the flock will lick up the convenient lies. What Gate really trashed, is Congress. He detested Congress and said so - so a ricochet attempt is probably what all these fabrications are really all about. |
